I have to make corn bread for church tonight (yuck), 2 sweet potato casseroles (one for each grandma's house), and some kind of desert. I'm going to have to start cooking this afternoon sometime.

And while I'm messing up the kitchen that i just cleaned, i'm gonna make the pumpkin bread that I have been meaning to make for months.

And I'm sure some of that will be had, too, so it can be considered 'for thanksgiving'

go to the recipe
basically you put the turkey in salt water with a bunch of other goodies thrown in
it makes the turkey really really flavorful

My mom called me at work Monday:

"I told your dad to get a 10-12lb turkey. Guess what size turkey he got?!?!"
"I dunno, mom...6?"
"20lbs! TWENTY FREAKING POUNDS! Besides thawing this thing, I don't know if it's gonna fit in the oven!"

I so wanted to tell her "if you'd quit keeping jews in your oven, you'd have room for a turkey"

i am making turkey, chestnut dressing, green beans with pearl onions, glazed carrots, scalloped potatoes, sweet potato souffle, and pecan pie

i am making the turkey from frozen to cooked in one day, 5 hrs in the oven, because i have nowhere to let it thaw and i can't find a fresh one (in montreal)

i'm doing this on friday so i'm gonna go grocery shopping tonight and get started on everything tomorrow

how many freaking hours would that take? there's only one kitchen sink in this apartment for 5 people to use. i have already decided how i will cook my bird. there's no reason it won't work.
about.com says so! http://busycooks.about.com/od/thanksgiving/a/cookfrozenturke.htm

i do plan on basting my bird with butter and spices and crap. but even if it turns out dry and tasteless, it should be nostalgic of many turkey dinners in the past....

i should note that i haven't even bought the damn thing yet because there is literally nowhere to put it. maybe i could just leave it outside....

stick the turkey in a bucket or bus tub and run water in your bathroom tub over it if you want to keep the kitchen free

it should take a couple of hours

I'm telling you this because you WANT to brine it

i don't care about your fad way of cooking turkey. omg it was only rediscovered 3 years ago and its the best thing ever! i don't suck alton browns dick, he is a good cook but he isn't a god and semen just doesn't go with turkey anyway.

looking at your recipe, you probably paid as much for the brine as the turkey. my budget is stretched as it is, and if everybody drinks the beer before they eat the turkey they wont care if it isnt the maximum moisture and flavor that one could possibly find in a turkey. i'll save the extra flavor for the gravy
