I got a job offer to work for their REU program this summer, 10 weeks. I'll be working with either Nanomaterials or biocompatibility, both of which sound really cool, living on campus and eating campus food.Anyone know the area, if its cool or whatnot?

well, i have the option of just flying down there and having no car (flight fully paid for)or driving down there myself over two days, grabbing a hotel somewhere along the way (only the return trip would be refunded, dunno about the room).I will have full meals provided on campus, live on campus so I could probably walk to work, and there will be some other REUs who probably have cars...I'm thinking flying and having no car sounds good to me.

^^what for? ^word, how is Ruston? I look at google maps but it doesn't zone anything for the university...is it a college town like Blacksburg that dies during the summer? It looks like a cool area, with lots of trees in the city.

Went to Alexandria, LA a couple years ago but we drove it in one straight shot with two of us driving. Wasn't too bad after you get past Atlanta. You'd probably want to stay in Atlanta or Birmingham if you're going to drive.

Yes, Ruston is dead as hell during the summer. Bring your car and hang out in Monroe or Shreveport... and even saying that makes me chuckle.
