Just now watching '60 minutes' and their piece on Illegal Aliens/those seeking Political Asylum who come here, are detained, and then get lawyers to sue the government when they aren't given proper health care. There is one such lawsuit right now involving a 35 year old Mexican man who was an illegal alien who had been convicted of a drug felony and sent to a detention center where he was to be deported. He had a urology consult where he was informed he should get a bioposy but he died before that happened. Now his family is suing the US.

Anyone else find this disgusting?

The 'world' hates us yet they risk their lives trying to come here, and if they manage to criminally make it in, they depend we give them the same care as everyone else? You know I was an immigrant at one time. My parents came to this country legally, with $0.00 and never once have we expected or received a handout from the government.

It's almost like how if you are a homeowner, and have a pool which doesn't have a gate around it, and some little kids break into your house and drown in your pool, you are responsible.

everything we see on tv and read in the papers is real

lawsuits = $$$$$ hollerrrrrrr.

also the pool thing is called an attractive nuisance. just a little terminology vomit leftover from my torts final last week.

also personal umbrella liability policies were invented for things like pools. even if you have steps up to your front door without railings on it. or trampolines. pretty much anything. even if someone slips and falls because of ice on your property. its gay but...you know how people are.

the law likes to justify these things by telling us that we value life over property or something. and that kids are dumb and can't appreciate risks. and then insurance companies come in and tell you that you will get sued so you best buy their policies.

and on one final note (having nothing to do with the immigration topic), it is funny how people bitch so much about "frivolous" lawsuits---like EVERYONE bitches about how sue happy people are, yet....lawsuits keep happening. so some people aren't being very truthful. that or when something does happen do them they change their tune.

If the government is going to forcibly detain you then it has to provide medical care for you. If the detention facility fails to do so, then it has failed at one of its fundamental responsibilities. Citizenship doesn't have anything to do with it. We are required by international law to provide adequate medical care to POW's who had, up until the moment they were captured, been shooting at us. But you don't think we should provide it to people who haven't fired a shot or done anything more violent than swim across a river?

1) Told he may have a life-threatening disease by a government-employed health worker,
2) Completely dependent on government medical care because he is in government detention and unable to get his own medical care
3) Subsequently denied possibly life-saving procedures by the same institution bound to provide them

I think before people react they should know more of the details. Was he given the consult while he was in prison? would it have taken the same amount of time to schedule as it would on the outside? is the doctor liable when it could easily have gotten worse without his knowledge to lead to death?

i'm still confused why people are bringing up this argument. if there was a republican in office immigration would be under control?? oh wait...there is, and it isn't. we aren't really talking about border control issues, they're already here being held in detention by us. this doesn't have anything to do with liberals/conservatives. unless as a conservative you feel that those in detention in this country aren't entitled to adequate medical care. which maybe you do. in which case maybe we should let them the fuck out so they can go to their own doctors and not sue. oh but wait, then they'd be wandering around the country snatching up all the great jobs that every american is competing for and we don't want that either. not to mention the international implications of the U.S. just letting immigrant detainees rot w/o adequate medical care and no remedies for any negligent care that they do receive.
