I'm writing a letter of interest for a job I am applying to at Barnard Collegein my greeting section of the letter it is impossible for me to know what "Mr" or "Mrs" I am writing to as the only information that I have is that I should direct it to "Employment Manager"so... do I say "Dear Employment Manager,"seems kind of stiltedHALP!

^ I have always heard not to do this, you should try and find SOMEONE to address the letter to.

I never start letters off with "Dear"Sounds like I'm a 9 year old writing a thank you note to his grandma for a birthday presentTo each their own, though

"Dear Sir or Madam" seems to work but I have read that it might seem lazy or even rudeis "Attention Employment Manager" too spartan?

We had a EEOC training last week and the trainer said using "Dear" could be considered sexual harassment.[Edited on May 27, 2008 at 3:01 PM. Reason : w]

I'm thinking that its this woman, Barbara Stoverthanks for the link, btwI had tried to search for that earlier but I'm on bootleg wireless atmdo you think it would be a horrible thing if I guessed that it was her and I was wrong?question #2: how critical is my handwritten signature on this letter of interest if I submit it electronically?sub-question: electronic submission versus paper?

^^I responded to an ad once that said to contact "Tommy Anthony". I addressed it to Tommy Anthony. In the ad, they actually meant for it to say "Tommy or Anthony". I still got the job.
