I'm writing a letter of interest for a job I am applying to at Barnard College

in my greeting section of the letter it is impossible for me to know what "Mr" or "Mrs" I am writing to as the only information that I have is that I should direct it to "Employment Manager"

so... do I say "Dear Employment Manager,"

seems kind of stilted

We had a EEOC training last week and the trainer said using "Dear" could be considered sexual harassment.

I would say 'Dear Employment Manager' if you absolutely cannot find out who you are emailing to. Can you not research or email a contact and find out who it is?

Edit: Read the thread; if you are concerned about it you could email Barbara or whoever and see if she's the contact. Even if its not it may get you some brownie points with the HNIC.

If there's an option for email or paper, a paper application may set you out with a physical application, or it may make a hassel for the HNIC because most of their applications are electronic. Or you could send electronic and physical? Tough call.
