I'm looking for a good road bike that handle trails at Umstead Park also. I went to REI, but they seem overpriced. Does anyone have any recommendations on a good place to get a bike?

Play it again sports sometimes has used bikes - if you're wanting a bike for cheap and don't mind it being used.

yeah that was messed up that he posted the guy's info, but he was unfairly trashing the shop's name. Still, unless you are in the witness protection program, it's a good shop.

i got mine at cycle logic on hillsborough. sometimes they have bikes marked down in price, plus they give you free tune-ups for a year.

If you don't mind a bit of a drive, J&L Bike Shop in Burlington is pretty good. Locally owned so they have really good prices

Cycle Logic is sort of a dump but they know what theyre doing and will give you a good dealdo not go to the all-stars cycle place (plaza on wade, by tripps and that whole foods). they charge you out the ass for everything. i bought a new chain there while i was having some work done, they charged me 10 dollars to put it on. so i said 'i could have done that myself in like 30 seconds', they said well its already on there. most shops install a single part if you buy it there.Craigslist is the best place for a used bike. Check trianglemtb.com as well, used bikes in the forum. Just make sure you know what youre getting into with both of those sites. Some bikes are overpriced and some are absolute steals

^yeah, All-Stars charged me $50 for a single tune-up a few years ago, and my bike wasn't worth much more than that. place is a total rip-off. the tune up didn't last long either.[Edited on June 2, 2008 at 2:48 PM. Reason : .]

Craigslist for used, Performance for new. Don't know about cary, but Chapel Hill store had no problem with the idea of me taking a bike out for my lunch break for an extended test ride. None of this garbage "we're charging your card if you aren't back in 5 mins" that some shops do.

i bought mine from a cycle shop on glenwood in 2003-2004ish...i can't remember the name of the place though. it was over near where best buy used to be in pleasant valley. they might not exist anymore.so...that's not really helpful at all. sorry [Edited on June 2, 2008 at 2:54 PM. Reason : ]

anyone have an extra bike lock for sale?
6/2/2008 6:28:40 PM
Bicycle chain on Glenwood. It's where I bought both mine and my girlfriend's bike. I got the Tricross from Specialized which has skinny tires but with treads on the edges for trails. I love it but it's a little $Texas.
