I hate owing anybody anythingI settle all my bets the next day and buy all my major purchases straight cash.If I don't have the money for it, I don't buy it.
6/7/2008 6:49:25 PM
^^^^ yeah, i'll have a mortgage by this time next year, if not a little before. that's different, though.^^^ ha, yeah, i got debt free for about 24 hours a couple of years ago, then bought a car. ^ i'm not opposed to financing stuff. credit card debt is bad, and i haven't had any of that in years, but I don't mind financing big ticket items like cars. the rates for a secured loan for someone with good credit are usually pretty low.but i finally sold my car and paid it off (and am currently driving a truck that I paid cash for). my plan is to buy another motorcycle and jet ski with the money i have left over from selling my car (after paying it off), then save enough while I'm deployed to Iraq to buy another decent car (along with the few thousand I'll get for selling the truck) when I get back, so hopefully I'll be able to stay debt free other than a mortgage. congrats dude - now it's time to get into some good debt
6/7/2008 6:50:18 PM
i also am debt free after filing bankrupcy, yeaaah
6/7/2008 6:52:10 PM
you still got that payment to baby momma
6/7/2008 6:56:25 PM
yeah, that still fucks my debt:income ratio some, but i can't do anything about it. she's actually been giving a little bit of that back, lately (not enough to make it fair--i.e., she doesn't really contribute anything financially for our daughter, but over the last few months, she's probably given me back enough that at least I haven't been making her car payment for her on top of paying for everything for our daughter).

Congrats - most people in our society aren't financially savvy enough to understand the pros and cons of "no debt" vs. "good debt" vs. "bad debt".Sometimes it's good to be in the minority.
6/7/2008 8:09:01 PM
i might be debt free in 30 years
6/7/2008 8:10:14 PM
I just got into debt the first time this year, other than being in debt for ~30days at a time on my credit card, but I always pay it off at the end of the month. The car payment is so low though I forget I even have it. Same with the tv I bought at best buy, shits like $30/month
6/7/2008 8:12:00 PM
mine is all school loans.yay school.
6/7/2008 8:12:45 PM
^^ only being $30/month doesn't mean it isn't terrible debt. you'll end up paying for that TV twice if you keep on making that $30/month minimum payment.
6/7/2008 9:59:41 PM
congrats. I bet it feels greatI'm pretty close myself. Within a month or two, I'll be good[Edited on June 7, 2008 at 10:03 PM. Reason : moar]
6/7/2008 10:03:16 PM
I paid off two cards this week.
6/7/2008 10:07:15 PM
^^sweetnice work, dude, especially at 25. at 25, i was still paying off the motorcycle i financed in college and a car payment (and maybe a very little bit of credit card debt, though that was gone pretty shortly after college).i just can't wait to re-accumulate a stable of toys (cars/motorcycles/jet skis/maybe another truck). driving a 10 year old 3/4 truck as a daily driver kinda sucks, especially as a sports car fiend (and especially at the gas pump, paying $4.12/gallon at 11 mpg!). i think that i'll be able to do it all debt free, though, with all the money i won't be spending in iraq. since i'll be spending less than 50% of my time at home, i'm not gonna get anything extravagant, though. maybe another S2000, another 330i/330ci, etc. once the iraq thing finally dies down or I get sent to another job where I won't deploy after a few years, then I'll get another really kickass car._______________________i'd prob make paying of credit card (to include stuff like best buy cards, suzuki cards, etc) debt priority #1. school loans and car loans aren't to be ignored, but they can take a backseat to funding IRAs, 401k, and other investing.[Edited on June 7, 2008 at 10:12 PM. 6/7/2008 10:22:59 PM
well, I paid off college loans soon after college.and I just paid up front for grad school to avoid the debt. I guess it helped that I had a scholarship, etc...and I had a few other things which I've taken care of alreadyI paid off my car a while back (3 years ago), but I recently traded it in now I'm leasing a 2008 Jeep, but whatever... other than a few thousand of credit card debt, I'll be all set. I just took a job offer up here in NY, so calculating my income - tax - living expenses, I'll be able to pay that card off in about a month...and still be able to save I can't complain
6/7/2008 10:23:32 PM
becoming debt free is one of the single greatest moments of your life ever, right up there with your wedding and seeing your kids play their first sports gamein fact its so great, that about a month later i went immediately back into debt just to relive it again sometime soon
6/7/2008 10:30:28 PM
I still owe 3,000 for my 4,000 camera lens...
6/7/2008 11:08:33 PM
i'm at a surplus until i finally decide on a house

debt free until i buy a house...
6/8/2008 10:43:04 AM
i can't wait for this day... the golf course my condo is on is going to open back up by September and probably closer to August which will leave me in a position to either jack the price up and wait till the end of the year or sell it quick at current price which still leaves me ahead at least $20K right now... which isn't bad for only having it a year, esp in this market
6/8/2008 11:59:18 AM
The other extreme is almost as bad. You'll have all these people with no credit scores get fucked over later on. The same people who prepay their mortgage but don't have a dime in their 401ks etc.
6/18/2008 6:14:37 PM
congrats dude, that is a great feelingI avoid debt at all costs
6/18/2008 7:23:43 PM
congrats for real. i'm slowly getting there.(minus the house payment - i don't count that)

it depends on the bank and the state.i live in WA, but am a FL resident (the Evo was titled in FL). FL is an electronic title state--i.e., there is no physical title on file. My bank notified the state of FL, who in turn printed a title and sent it to me. Took a couple of weeks.

Debt free and making money is an awesome place to be. Congrats. Save a ton of money while you can and get into a house that will serve as both a home and an investment when you are ready to take it on.[Edited on June 19, 2008 at 12:21 AM. Reason : l]

i think i'm going to wait until i get back from Iraq, when I'll have enough $$$ for a full 20% down payment, but I've found a house that seems to be HUGE bang for the buck, that should also EASILY generate positive cash flow if i decided to rent it out later. I have enough for a 10%+ down payment on it right now, so I'll looking into it a little closer, thinking about buying before I deploy and just renting it out for 6 months until I get back.
6/19/2008 12:26:23 AM
other than a mortgage (i'm not baller enough to pay cash for a house) i just have student loans, which are relatively small but the interest rate is so low it would be stupid to pay them off.
6/19/2008 12:36:07 AM
^^ I think that is a good idea. I remember you talking about buying a place and putting it up for rent when you ship out, but you don't want to have to worry about a house while you are over there.I'm debt free except for my house in which I have over 20% equity. No complaints here.[Edited on June 19, 2008 at 12:40 AM. Reason : l]
