exactly! i can not sit on the couch nekid with the wife home because she thinks it is gross. i also can not drip dry on the rug in the bath with out getting yelled at. i did that tonight when i got in from the boat. i get nagged for not checking the mail every day, i haven't done it since thursday. basically all the things that drives my wife nuts i can do with out her knowing. it is not that i wont do these things when she is here, i just know what she prefers and does not prefer.

i don't like her painting her toe/finger nails in bed because of the smell. so every time i am out of town and i call what is she doing? you guessed it, painting nails and toes in bed. i don't mind if i am not here. it works both ways. our marriage works because we both respect each other by not doing stuff the other hates when they are home.

OK, so I just actually read the thread... and yeah, things do work out better that way.
I retract my 'short leash' comment- just sounds like you've figured out what works.
(and I guess guys just hate the smell of polish... my SO hates it too)

I get my house all to myself tonight, too-- no roommates, no boyfriend (ok-- he's been gone a while, so that's kinda sucky)... but it's still nice. Took a long shower, did some laundry, and now i'm gonna hang out on the couch w/ my dinner & Sopranos in my fuzzy robe
