Is there a recipe for red sauce? Its a mix of some kind of cayenne pepper and vinegar. They have it at Smithfields as Rib Sauce, and interestingly enough I went to a outlying restaurant near Baton Rouge down here that had nearly the same stuff but sold it as tiger sauce. Is this a common recipe then?

Umm...must be a NC dialect thing....every time ive heard "red sauce" anywhere else in the country, they were talking about a tomato sauce...like the kind you'd put on pasta

Red Sauce is pasta sauce. Even to those of us in NC.Peter, you are looking for standard rib sauce which pretty much pepper vinegar and ketchup. * 1 1/2 cups cider vinegar * 10 tablespoons ketchup * 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper, or to taste * 1 pinch red pepper flakes * 1 tablespoon white sugar * 1/2 cup water * salt and black pepper to taste

that looks about right. i called it red sauce because that's what my friends ask for when they go to smithfields. maybe they're saying rib sauce, i'm kind of hard of hearing sometimes

It's rib sauce. But yeah, that's pretty much what it is. You can tweak the ingredients to taste, simmer, and there you go.
