to knock out enough shit to cause a significant change in gravity?

I'll have to watch "Armageddon" again.

6/24/2008 11:45:42 PM
fuck, this was definitely a lounge thread.
6/24/2008 11:46:22 PM
Someone would answer it in TSB.
6/24/2008 11:48:37 PM
I don't see what asteroids and "shit" in the earth have to do with gravity (the fact that god gave us the ability to keep ourselves unwittingly attached to earth)
6/24/2008 11:53:45 PM
no i think it's right at home here
6/24/2008 11:53:56 PM
What is significant to you? Some relevant information would not only be the mass of the asteroid, but the shape, matter, speed, angle of impact, etc.
6/24/2008 11:54:25 PM
WTF is the difference between "The Lounge" and "Chit Chat"??
6/24/2008 11:54:46 PM
only difference to me is in chit chat I can post thisand in the lounge I cant
6/24/2008 11:55:46 PM
considering the density gradient of the earth, it'd have to be pretty fucking big
6/24/2008 11:57:23 PM
HEY EVERYONE, SLAVE FAMOUS GOOGLED GAY PORN PICS JUST TO POST ON TWW. COOLEST GUY ON THE PLANET

6/25/2008 12:01:01 AM
i want to know.
6/25/2008 12:41:38 PM
^the earth's gravity comes from its mass and rotation. So you'd need a big asteroid that would destroy a lot of that mass and disturb its rotation. For that to happen would result in a huge explosion that would kill everyone on the planet. So you wouldn't be around to "enjoy" the change in gravity.
6/25/2008 12:45:23 PM
orly?i know all that, i want to know the force for an average sized asteroid (to the exact decimal).
6/25/2008 1:34:31 PM
f = m*a
6/25/2008 3:55:16 PM
^10 Dude eats a shitton of celery oysters and pineapple.
6/25/2008 4:05:10 PM
How do you define "significant"
6/25/2008 4:08:31 PM
A large enough impact usually just fuses the masses together.Earth was actually 80% of the size that it is now when it was impacted by a Mars size object that actually added mass. Some of the remaining ejecta went on to form the moon. At least thats one theory on where the moon came from.

6/25/2008 4:15:45 PM
about 5~10% change in g.lets assume the asteroid is a sphere.]
6/25/2008 4:17:49 PM
Why don't you just lose some weight instead of hoping that asteroids will do it for you?
6/25/2008 4:18:38 PM
i'm 130 and 5'10, i don't think losing weight is in my best interest.maybe the collision is inelastic and i gain some weight[Edited on June 25, 2008 at 4:47 PM. Reason : EVER THOUGHT ABOUT THAT?]
