it's one thing when they for no goddamned reason won't let a store (in this case, the wal-mart) accept a personal check. i understand, identity theft or some shit like that. but to not allow a place to cash a computer-printed payroll check? now that's just silly.anyone else had stupid shit through this certegy bullshit?

i can also print payroll checks on my computer

apparently certegy flags an account if too many checks are written from it in too short a time. which is very unfortunate for a payroll account.

this just in: stores are not banks

also, it's not that Certegy (or chexsystems or any other provider for that matter) doesn't allow the store to accept the checkthey merely provide the store with intelligence regarding the potential validity of the check and risk of non-payment.the store does with this information what it likes.i used to be a bookkeeper at lowes foods. chexsystems would throw an alert to the register if it didn't like the check. any CSR/bookkeeper/CSM could override this alert if we so desired.

most banks won't cash a check unless you have an account there. and the closest (and only, i think) branch of the bank the check is written from is in new york city.and before i get the "grow up and open a bank account" spiel, i'm bitching on behalf of my 16 year old brother. it jsut inconvenienced me because i had to drive to bumfuck and loan him $20 for gas so he could get home.[Edited on June 25, 2008 at 1:23 AM.
