Random QuestionWhen you change your address at the post office do they send something to your old address? I know if you change it online they check your mailing address with your credit card. At the post office they don't even check ID or anything. So do they send something to your old address to verify or anything??

too bad the post office doesn't have a phone or a website
6/30/2008 7:48:35 PM
i'm in my 3rd apt at the same place and they never sent anything to my 1st apt[Edited on June 30, 2008 at 7:49 PM. Reason : .]

checked the website, asshat I basically just said that (considering i know the procedure for online address changes). And I don't think 8:00pm is a good time to get anyone on the phone at the post office.
6/30/2008 7:51:25 PM
you're even dumber for not expecting an assholish post like mine somewhere within the first 5 replies to a thread like this

thin skinnedcaught a few trout near new bern. mostly been fishing the pamlico river though. trolling motor just got done with some warranty repairs today. prop wouldn't engage (it'd steer and everything).

6/30/2008 8:27:19 PM
sorta
6/30/2008 8:29:24 PM
agreed that would be creepy if he popped up
6/30/2008 8:33:01 PM
It depends on your change of address date when you sign up for change of address online. If I'm moving tomorrow, and I change it, there really isn't any reason for them to send a post card.
6/30/2008 10:08:01 PM
^that could be why i didnt get anything
6/30/2008 10:08:44 PM
why would you get anything if you weren't there?

lol i win...that shit was gay
6/30/2008 10:50:12 PM
all i did was fill out the formthen they mailed me something about a week later confirming it (didn't have to use the credit card), along with 2lb's of coupons for local vendors
6/30/2008 10:52:51 PM
it makes sense for them to send something to the previous address b/c if I go to the PO and fill out a change of address for some random chick and they don't check my ID, then I start getting her mail and have access to her personal info (credit card/bank statements and shit)...They could send a confirmation postcard or something just to make sure...so then that girl would be like "shit, no i didn't!"or something...
7/1/2008 12:19:30 AM
I know they sent a confirmation thing to my new address, but I didn't know they'd send one to my old address (and to my knowledge, there wasn't one at my old address). Why would they send one to my old address anyway? It's not like I'd get it.More importantly, why haven't you gone paperless with your bank statements if you're so paranoid?[Edited on July 1, 2008 at 12:29 AM. Reason : ?]
7/1/2008 12:28:17 AM
oh shit i fucked up bad
7/1/2008 12:28:21 AM
^^jesus christ you're missing the point. this isn't about my bank statements. i have gone paperless. that was an example showing a reason why they would send a confirmation to your old address. re-read it. all i wanted to know was if i went to the post office and filled out a change of address form, if they were going to send something to my previous address. I don't care about someone else getting my mail, really. what I care about is something going to my ex's that says "hey heather, did you change your address to blah blah blah?" the reason the post office might do this is in case it wasn't actually me. they might send something that says "hey heather, please contact the post office if you did not recently change your address"[Edited on July 1, 2008 at 12:50 AM. Reason : ds]

^ i got your back^^^ i don't got your back
7/1/2008 12:52:18 AM
Don't file a change of address at all! Just inform the banks and companies you do business with and the DMV. That way your junk mail won't follow you unless you blab your new address to the next occupant of your old place.I recommend a P.O. Box if you're worried about mail theft. I've had one for about a year and it costs $6 a month. It's a little inconvenient to stop at the post office every couple of days but it's close to my office and I don't worry about my mail and packages getting stolen.
