they cited some decent non-religious sources, and were making a decent point about for each dollar it brings in, 24 dollars goes to government subsidized treatment and shit like that. but all stats like that are skewed in some way to make it look really lopsided.

but yeah i think its stupid too and i dont even drink. an old guy on the news last night said "ive been here 50 years without it, we've been growing just fine without it, etc" -

so basically if it doesnt pass they'll just keep doing it every year till that population is finally gone (sounds harsh but its real)

btw - do they sell it in stores even? i cant imagine all this crazy shit over the addition of a "by the drink" thing (i remember that one store that had no beer, wondering now if thats why)

yeah, asheboro has been growing in my opinion partially at least on the assumption that sooner or later we'll get alcohol.. I really don't think rockola and chili's came thinking that they'd never be able to sell alcohol

..and having heard that from the owner of rockola's mouth kind of confirms that from the restaurant perspective anyways. really all we have is the zoo and a shit ton of mexicans that work for nothing so some factories are here..

yea.. my point if that's true then they're already spending the money on treatment--asheboro has PLENTY of alcoholics as it is.. letting them buy it here just gives the city some benefit instead of all the cities around us getting the money then asheboro still having to pay for treatment of their own drunks

although i highly doubt that figure is accurate

the Rock Ola down there is the same way. Stopped there for dinner one night and there were only like 4 people there. Then they wonder why everyone in Asheboro hangs out in Greensboro.

Shit, I hope they don't allow alcohol sales in Asheboro. Greensboro's economy benefits from you guys not having booze down there.

It's usually not the county that's dry it's every other little city in it that is.. like, randolph county isn't dry, just asheboro. you can buy it in randleman and liberty, both are in randolph county
