yeah, i thought about that. here are the places i've heard of or had on my mind:falls lakelake raleighpullen park?lake lynnneuse river, but i'm completely unfamiliar with it's depth, rockiness, etc. around raleigh. and it would require a nice person to leave a vehicle for me at my take-out point[Edited on July 27, 2008 at 12:41 AM. Reason : i have no problem putting fuel in my truck. please stay on topic.]

there's some backways into buckhorn lake in wilson, where you dont have to pay the ramp feejust drag the boat for a little bit. max of 30 yards, depending on which one you usealso, take it and put it into any ponds you can find around office complexes and in neighborhoodslochmere has a few ponds and there's an office park out on poole road, but that one doesnt require a boat to fish
7/27/2008 12:49:46 AM
looking for something closer than buckhorn. besides, you could get seasick from all the damn skiers and tubers out there. i went once and tried to fish and said the hell with it. it might be ok with a canoe up in that shallow part where they can't run though. mind PMing me some details on these backways in?where is lochmere?^^get up with me if you ever want to take this joker out around raleigh sometime. could do some catching up.[Edited on July 27, 2008 at 12:54 AM. 7/27/2008 10:49:53 AM
ok, i know the names of the places. i need more info on how crowded it gets, best places to launch, etc.share some experiencesalso, if someone has a canoe and wants to show me their favorite places that'd be cool too. i'm still learning all this stuff.
7/27/2008 10:56:32 AM
im more of a river person. my favorite trip around here is the cape fear. start at buckhorn dam, go 16 miles down through raven rock state park and end at the new river park in erwin. if im on a lake i want a boat with a motor
7/27/2008 11:12:57 AM
^amen.
7/27/2008 11:14:32 AM
comparing canoeing with fishing from my other boat is kinda apples and oranges. i mean, they're just so different. canoe is quiet and peaceful. on the boat it's more of like just a means of getting to the fish. with the canoe, getting there is half the fun.[Edited on July 27, 2008 at 11:17 AM. Reason : and this works out better with an apartment in raleigh, so what the hell]
7/27/2008 11:17:14 AM
I usually go to seaforth at jordan lake when im kayaking or canoeing. It can get crowded with boats at the ramps occasionally but it doesn't take long to get to the quieter fishing areas, granted i've got a trolling motor ill use on my canoe sometimes when i fish it may take a little longer paddling.
7/27/2008 11:43:41 AM
i thought about putting on a trolling motor, but i don't wanna screw with registration and all that stuffplus, this was supposed to be a fishing-on-a-budget type thing. hell, i need the exercise
7/27/2008 11:54:08 AM
wow this thread is like hick central
7/27/2008 11:58:03 AM
^ racist.
7/27/2008 11:58:46 AM
Crabtree Lake
7/27/2008 11:58:56 AM
yeah i dont have my canoe registered i just put one of those weak clamp on minn kotas and throw a battery in back, doesn't go fast but its nice sometimes.[Edited on July 27, 2008 at 2:08 PM. Reason : it was ~100 dollars for the motor and battery]
