Me and my lil sis who lives in CO are getting a Verizon plan. We each need to pick out a phone. I know nothing about technology. (yess I am still trying to get into this century) I have had a Razr for over 2 years and it has been good. I think she is getting some Palm something. Any suggestions on best phone to get?

I like the look of the Decoy, and the Dare seems to have gotten pretty good reviews so far.
8/4/2008 10:10:12 PM
idki have the env and like itthat's about as much as i could tell you
8/4/2008 10:11:16 PM
search - if you need me to bttt a thread just PM me
8/4/2008 10:14:23 PM
I've got a Krazr - it doesn't seem to have the problem that many folks have with Razrs. I like it. But of course, I want a BlackBerry
8/4/2008 10:17:22 PM
you can get a blackberry curve for less than $100 and it's really awesome. you could wait it out for the blackberry bold as that is supposed to be really awesome.
8/4/2008 10:25:26 PM
yea, but with blackberry, you gotta pay extra for "blackberry service"
8/4/2008 10:34:45 PM
I had the blackberry pearl with verizon (which I just traded for the iphone), but it was really good!
8/4/2008 10:40:25 PM
$45 EXTRA / month for "blackberry service", rediculousyou can get an iphone + plan for that much
8/4/2008 10:44:09 PM
i have cingular but samsung is a great phone for any service
8/4/2008 10:52:21 PM
do you have to pay extra service for the blackberry pearl?
8/4/2008 10:54:02 PM
you don't pay extra for any blackberry if you use pop or imap accounts, that's only for BES (ie. if your company has a blackberry server).my bill is the exact same as the last motorola i had. [Edited on August 4, 2008 at 11:04 PM. Reason : /]

I'm on the BlackBerry bandwagon... Curve 8330 - No complaints.
8/4/2008 11:08:41 PM
i'll bet you got lots of curves, baby...
8/4/2008 11:10:43 PM
Fuck a dare. Mine was a big piece of shit. Kept randomly shutting down or restarting. Swapped it out for a BB Curve and couldn't be happier. Plan is $30, not $45 unless your company is using Exchange (most likely not) and you have to have it. Blows my old Windows Mobile Samsung out of the water as well.
8/4/2008 11:14:45 PM
so for the Curve, do you have to pay anything extra other than your regular plan? Any extra data plan needed?
8/4/2008 11:20:51 PM
I use the crap outta mine, so I just pay the unlimited all package - couldn't tell ya....Unless you're using a company server, there are rarely surcharges - you just need to check into it based on your circumstances of use.
8/4/2008 11:23:18 PM
supposedly there are ways around it but you're going to pay $24.99 of 10meg or $29.99 for unlimited on the Curve. Seriously though, if you buy any BB, Winmobile phone, etc., it's kind of pointless to NOT get some sort of data plan. Especially with the BB since that's the entire point of them.
8/4/2008 11:26:01 PM
eh, paying an extra $30 a month on top of my normal plan just to have a blackberry is a little much - that is an extra $360 a year, which is almost as much as my car insurance
8/4/2008 11:33:19 PM
^exactly, that's why I got the Moto Q9c. Don't have to pay that stupid extra money for blackberry service.

I just switched from Nextel to Verizon, and my LG Voyager should be here tomorrow http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/store/controller?item=phoneFirst&action=viewPhoneDetail&selectedPhoneId=3299[Edited on August 5, 2008 at 3:29 AM. Reason : kjhj]

I got a Chocolate 3 with an 8GB SD card. It's pretty tight.
8/5/2008 7:04:39 AM
this thread sucks
8/5/2008 7:13:09 AM
I like my Env-2. Sleeker and thinner than its predecessor, and mid-range price ($150). Good camera, good screen size & clarity. Handy tools like tip calculator, calendar, etc. I love using the bluetooth through my car's GPS to make hands-free calls.
8/5/2008 10:54:29 AM
palms suck. if you've actually picked one up in the store it's immediately obvious why.i have a moto q9c and i love it. blackberries have terrible operating systems.
8/5/2008 10:59:14 AM
Have you ever owned a Blackberry? I used to think the same way until I actually bought one. The only downside to it is that you can't use hacked apps since they register based on the PIN. Having owned & used various Winmobile phones, the new BB's are 10x better. Much more stable & reliable. You can actually close apps easily so they aren't taking up your memory & I no longer have to do a reset every couple of days. Unless WinMobile changes drastically, I seriously doubt I'll ever buy another one.
8/5/2008 12:33:03 PM
^winmo is the shit and have the capability of running many more programs than BB... and there are programs to close programs if thats the problemand if you want windows mobile then dont get a moto q... theyre small and look ok but they dont have a touchscreen which limits the useability (word?)htc ftw!
8/5/2008 1:49:14 PM
my dad (who is also my boss) has a BB. i constantly have to show him how to do stuff on it and the OS just isn't logical. it sucks. there aren't many other programs to add to it. then there's the additional fee just b/c it's a BB. thumbs downi don't particularly love windows as a whole, but the mobile version is great as a phone OS.this may just be me, but i hate touchscreens. having to use a stylus is annoying and even my little fingers are too big. not to mention the fingerprints/smudges all over it. what can't you do w/ a normal screen that you can w/ a touchscreen?[Edited on August 5, 2008 at 1:57 PM. ^ touchscreen just opens a whole new world of fingering and prodding...a simple example would be slide2unlock.. a program that mimics the iphone slide to unlock feature when you turn the screen on or answer a callalso, most touch screen phones from verizon also have a slide out keyboard which is very convenient... i rarely use the stylus because of the programs that are designed to make it easier to use fingersanother simple example is pocketcm... a contacts program that lets you scroll through your contacts using just a finger... similar to the iphone but better imo
8/5/2008 2:07:40 PM
the scroll wheel scrolls just fine.i can push a button to unlock my phone, and i know where that button is w/o having to look at the phone.my phone also has a keyboard... [Edited on August 5, 2008 at 2:11 PM. Reason : if you want an iphone, buy an iphone]
8/5/2008 2:10:42 PM
ive got the ev 2 love it, but if i had the money at the time would have gotten the dare (the lawyer i work for got it cause he had to many problems with his blackberry)mom has the new blackberry curve and its a piece, cant get service anywhereboyfriend has the blackberry and it also get shitty service and you have to pay extra for just email, lame
8/5/2008 2:13:38 PM
^^im sure the scroll wheel works finei too, can unlock my phone without looking at itand the yes, the keyboard is convenientand i could go for an iphone, but its not in my budget, especially when i have a phone that can do the same exact things and has more compatible 3rd party programs.i aint tryin to argue... we all have our opinion on what phone is best and blah blah but im just sayin the touchscreen makes it more user friendly and also makes the useability (again, word?) a little more diverse[Edited on August 5, 2008 at 2:18 PM. I have to agree with damose on the touchscreen & winmo. It makes it MUCH easier to use. That's one of the things that I like about the BB's trackball. Go anywhere on the screen I want without the fingerprints or mistaken "clicks". As for the programs, there's probably 2-3 times more apps available for BB as there is for WinMobile. BB owns the executive tech market so it would only make sense that there's a lot more apps available for it. Just check one of the hundreds of BB forums to see. They're everywhere. As for the "extra money", it's less money if you're buying the phone for email. My data plan went from $45/mo on my Samsung to $30/mo on the BB. If you buy a BB, you should already be planning on a data plan so it's a non-issue. Otherwise it's like buying a blu-ray to play regular dvds, stupid. As for the signal stuff, you got me there. Mine & my father's get better reception than both my old i730 & chocolate flip and his Moto Q and the same as the pos Dare that I had for a week. Maybe they should dial *228 & try to do an update.
8/5/2008 4:48:26 PM
don't think I need a BB. I looked at the enV and it looked ok. also is the choclate like really gay or are they a POS?
8/5/2008 5:34:18 PM
anyone who is paying for a data plan on their own to use for work is rediculousyour employer should be paying for tools used to workmy employer provides me a different phone - im interested in a personal phone for personal use. yes i use personal email sometimes. and dont want to pay an extra $30/mo for blackberry
