I'm looking for some suggestions for a good place in Raleigh to have a dinner party.Preferably somewhere that I could reserve a whole section of the restaurant, or something to that effect. Somewhere that's a bit upscale would be good. Anyone got any personal preference or experience, or just know of a good place that I could do this? I've been checkin out some places online, but that only helps so much. Oh, and a good bakery/cake maker for one of those cool cakes that pretty much don't look like a cake, like you see on Food Network, etc.[Edited on August 8, 2008 at 4:57 PM. Reason : cake]

8/8/2008 4:58:12 PM
Bogarts on Glenwood seems to be a good spot with all your reqirements
8/8/2008 5:00:02 PM

It's for a birthday dinner. I'm thinking around 25-40 people (I know thats a good range, but I'm still up in the air on how many people to invite)Definitely no where that's less than $15 or so (i want a nice place), but nothing past $25-30 (Prime looks pretty good to me! Never been). And I'll pay whatever for a big party/private room/etc. A private room would definitely be cool, makes it a little easier for a good time imo.
8/8/2008 5:11:37 PM
Oh yeah, Prime Only is a good choice too. It's upscale, but not pretentiously so
8/8/2008 5:13:57 PM
the bistro
8/8/2008 5:18:20 PM
yeah just looked at caffe Luna's and for the private room the food is $40 per person all included.edible art does good cakes but $, I know a lady that does really good work for less.
8/8/2008 5:18:21 PM
Bloomsbury Bistro is $45 per person
8/8/2008 5:19:45 PM
Edible Art for the cakethey've got a website http://www.edibleartbakery.com
8/8/2008 5:22:50 PM
I totally agree with Bogarts, and Michael Dean's is a good option as well
8/8/2008 5:28:43 PM
Oooh, and for the cake - Not Just Cakeshttp://www.wearenotjustcakes.com/page/page/5029679.htmI use them for all the parties I plan for my clients. Pam and Laura do a great job for much less than Edible Art
8/8/2008 5:30:37 PM
The guests better bring some nice presents for this dinner.
8/8/2008 5:31:59 PM
nice presents are welcome, of course but as long as everyone has a good time and I can enjoy myself with all of my friends, it's all good.
8/8/2008 5:37:23 PM
is this for your bday?
8/8/2008 5:51:04 PM

I like that cake, but with different decor (no notes, etc), polka dots, and either NCSU colors or my favorite colors. Not sure what to put on it though...

cafe luna looks nicei walked by the other day and im pretty sure they reserve rooms[Edited on August 8, 2008 at 7:13 PM. Reason : ]
8/8/2008 7:13:39 PM
the palm room or vip room would be good @ Cafe Luna. I don't know how well it would go over with the long, single table, since I got people coming that aren't big fans of each other - I could seat them across from each other for some entertainment awkward moments ftw.I'm leaning towards Prime Only, but still looking
8/8/2008 7:21:56 PM
I would say Vinnie's but that may be pushin the $30 limit if there is going to be alcohol involved. All the other suggestions so far have been pretty good too
8/8/2008 7:27:02 PM
if you are doing this for your 20th...i cant imagine your 21st
8/8/2008 7:37:46 PM
haven't done anything really nice for my bday the past couple of years, figured it would be nice to get everyone together for a good time.you know next year will be good. but no suprise to me
8/8/2008 8:09:21 PM
my last 5 bdays have been right smack dab in dead week or exam week...ftl
8/8/2008 8:11:02 PM
I always get that 3 day Labor Day weekend either before or after my birthday. This year it just happens to be on Labor Day. Next year it's on a Tuesday wtf
8/8/2008 8:14:19 PM
they can put tables instead of the long table in the extra room in Luna's; we did this for one of my sister's parties
8/8/2008 8:17:01 PM
^ I'd rather have the awkward moment or too, and be like look bitches, here's the seating arrangement
8/9/2008 2:28:32 AM
yo am i invited?
8/9/2008 2:29:26 AM

8/9/2008 2:43:21 AM
anyone had the sushi @ Prime Only?
8/9/2008 12:57:51 PM
Caffe Luna at the corner of Hargett St. and Blount. Its actually a lot bigger than it looks and you can reserve different rooms or a floor even I think. That place is good too!Even though the website says cafeluna...the store is caffe luna.http://www.cafeluna.com/[Edited on August 9, 2008 at 1:15 PM. Reason : also very affordable!]
8/9/2008 1:15:20 PM
Try "The Cakery" or "Calhoun's Frosting Palace"
8/9/2008 1:16:36 PM
I like the Palm Room at Cafe Luna...its a good size for the number of people I wanna bring. Or maybe the Tuscan Room if they split it (which they do), because I ain't bringing 100 people.
8/9/2008 1:21:38 PM
go to georges garage in durham and ask for the private room.
8/9/2008 1:23:16 PM
forget these idiots. Go to the Cakery and be done with it
