Since beginning my studies in emergency medicine I've learned that rarely does a good deed go unpunished. However, last Friday I was at the takeout of the Nantahala river, just off the river when I heard a crash. I rushed to the scene to find a woman who crashed a convertible into a rock wall and flipped it. I treated her until the ambulance arrived and then asked if the EMS crew needed assistance with RSI. They said yes and I got in the truck and started an IV. The woman's heart stopped, but we worked her and got her back and flew her out from a nearby LZ to Asheville. I just got a job offer from that county.

The funny thing is that I was still wearing river gear and definitely smelled like ass.

When the flight crew got in the back of the truck they cut off the cardiac pacer to see what the underlying rhythm was and it was asystole. She was deader than 4 AM. I was like, "uh, we might want to turn that back on!"
