can't get hot water. it looks normal, but there aren't any buttons to turn the water temp. how do I do this? should I call a repairman?

Several things could be wrong...most common problem is a bad element. Any idea how old the hot water heater is? Those usually go bad every 7-10 years. Could be a thermostat issue or a wiring problem. Best bet is to call a plumber, but be ready to pay $texas.One thing you could do is check the breaker to the hot water heater. i jus unscrewed the cover off it and pushed the reset button. i heard a noise. i'm waiting to see what happens. i felt an itsy bit of warmth out of the water. like a hint of heat.
