weird, mine plays the same first song almost every timenot to mention the other ones that constantly come upi find it hard to believe that the same song can come up 2 times constantly when you have a 1/1000 chance of it happening[Edited on August 12, 2008 at 4:02 PM. Reason : .]

I use my ipod on shuffle every morning on the way to work. It seems like it choses between about 5 different songs to start off with. It also plays the same band (different song) twice in a row after going through a few songs and it always seems like one of them is from the same album every time.

i dont have an ipod, but my mp3 player is terrible at playing the same group of songs much more often. i can't stand it.

Mine always tends towards 311 for some reasonNo complaints, just odd

^same here even though i have like 3 of their songs. Always get two in a row from incubus as well as red hot chili peppers. Does anyone know where I could see how apple makes the shuffle feature work. I dont see how it could be 100% random.

I'll admit that sometimes in shuffle two songs in a row will play by the same band. I find it very unlikely to happen coincidentally.

some mp3 players and programs have a "tightness" function that you can set to make it play COMPLETELY random (as close as possible anyway, there is no simple "true" random in programming) all the way to grouping songs by artist very closely. You can't set this on the ipod, but it seems to be close to the completely random side. every time you hit "shuffle songs" it randomly assigns every song on its HDD from one to the highest number, for example 1 to 5432. This means it'll never play the same song twice unless you have it on your ipod more than once. I can't speak to their random algorithm, but there's no way to hear the same file twice unless you hit "shuffle" again

never had it happen. of course i don't have an ipod. stupid iproduct.

man i'm all about some pop hate and bill hicks, but the ipod is a solid product. you can't really refute this without sounding like an ill-conceived elitist

I like to make jokes at parties where people leave the song selection up to their ipod that the ipod is in control and that certain bands pay Apple money to have their songs played more often. Either that or the ipod has a conscious mind of it's own and plays whatever the fuck it wants.
