lol @ random spiral
5/9/2009 4:58:57 PM
that's pretty cool. I should do that with mine. If I knew how.The spiral is it's starting pattern, not random at all[Edited on May 9, 2009 at 5:00 PM. Reason : .]
5/9/2009 4:59:03 PM
wheres the actual device?
5/9/2009 5:04:00 PM
looks like it's at the top of the lighted area
5/9/2009 5:05:15 PM
ahh i think i see it
5/9/2009 5:10:36 PM
The newer roombas do the spirals when they detect a particularly dirty area of the carpet
5/9/2009 5:51:32 PM
I forget the word they use but the light turns red and it super scrubs. I thought it did a shitty job in bigger spaces, it would take forever to cover all the ground..
5/9/2009 5:53:06 PM
the dirt detect light is blue.does a really good job of covering large spaces.the pattern is tighter in the small areas because it bumps into things and that changes its trajectory.

Roombas suck!

I once heard that people who don't have a bed frame and their mattress is directly on the floor have lots of sex.
4/13/2010 1:27:20 PM
thank you for bumping this thread
4/13/2010 1:27:53 PM
Are these things any good? I'd love to have one because I don't sweep.
4/13/2010 1:28:32 PM
I  my roomba. Can't wait to get a scooba!
4/13/2010 1:31:23 PM
i have a roomba. i have it setup to run every mon/wed/fri at 1pm. it owns
4/13/2010 1:35:15 PM
I have a Roomba too.Best thing ever.I also have the Bissell SpotBot Pet. Hands free carpet cleaning. I like machines to do the housework for me.
4/13/2010 1:37:15 PM
I want to get a scooba but i cant really justify the price.
4/13/2010 1:38:22 PM
A roomba wouldn't really work on my hardwoods with carpets splayed about. Upstairs I'd need to protect it from flying down the hardwood steps. Since I have little area to now vacuum I will stick to using one myself.

n/mthere is an IRobot office in Durham. I always want to go in there and see if I can play [Edited on April 13, 2010 at 1:41 PM. Reason : f]

^^I have hardwood floors with various rugs throughout the house. My roomba has no issues transitioning. They all have sensors to determine if they are about to go over some stairs.

Oh I see, do they do well on longer carpet, like almost shag-a-licious?
4/13/2010 2:55:42 PM
how does it handle a sheddin' ass dog
4/13/2010 2:58:07 PM
horrible - it will clog from dog hair before it finishes a 1/4 of the room
4/13/2010 2:59:49 PM
How does it handle dust and crumbs?
4/13/2010 3:00:57 PM
4/13/2010 3:03:04 PM
^^^^^ depending on the length it could tangle on the brushes. The roomba will try to untangle itself (by moving backwards and reversing brushes) but if the entire carpet is like that idk.^^^^they have models that are designed to handle pets, but idk how effective they are^^ ownage.[Edited on April 13, 2010 at 3:03 PM. It works really well...I have one and when I come back the carpet looks like a clean vacumed carpet
4/13/2010 3:03:25 PM
One of my friends had a roommate like a year ago that had a small dog. The roomba still picks up hairs from said dog.

So, is this recommended for an all-carpet apartment with guys who probably don't even own a vacuum cleaner? Also, what models do you guys have? Because they have a ton of different older models that are cheaper.[Edited on April 13, 2010 at 3:32 PM. Reason : d]

Most likely you'll need to for real vacuum a few times to get the carpet looking decent and then let the roomba maintain, not so sure it'll be quick to clean up a mess as the storage container for shit is tiny.

I think my model is a 530. When I lived in a single bedroom carpeted apartment, I would just push "Clean" before leaving for work every few days and it took care of everything, even the cat litter my cat had splashed all over the damn place. Now I live in a hardwood house with lots of rugs... the Roomba takes care of the living room, dining room, and kitchen since they are all connected. The house is too big for just one roomba though, I let it go around when I first moved in but it got lost. If you get one of the models that comes with a lighthouse then it can handle a lot more rooms.
4/13/2010 3:54:54 PM
The keys to roomba success:-run it often-empty the bin/clean rollers often-setup lighthouses properly
4/13/2010 3:59:00 PM
roombas are fun for a little while... but then the novelty wears off and cleaning it out just becomes another chore.i prefer a standard upright vacuum. it does a better job anyway
4/13/2010 4:13:13 PM
We have an LG Kompressor PLUS, and it fucking owns.HEPA filter FTW.Compaction of dirt FTW.Compact size FTW.Adjustable suction FTW.
