i get plenty of cash money without reducing myself to certification exams[Edited on June 1, 2009 at 9:27 PM. Reason : though i will admit, it's more relevant for say cisco gear or if you wanna do A+ type support]

Seems like everyone I know is getting this meaning I'd be more inclined to looking at some other cert.

if my company paid for it and required it to progress i'd consider getting a cert. - otherwise highly unlikely

I have my PMP.Many (if not most) companies that perform R&D prefer or require their PMs to have it. For those companies, if they have a proper PMO, it makes sense b/c they control most of the variables involved with project success. For companies that provide project based managed services, it's a bit of a goat rope. Biz Dev guys like for the PMs to have the cert b/c it's a selling point. But the fact is that if your customer doesn't adhere to PMI principles, your PMP will only help you in understanding how things ought to be (don't get me wrong - even then, it's still good knowledge to have). In many cases, customers adhere to PMI principles when it's convenient, then abandon them when it isn't. It's an exception when the U.S. Gov't., or a prime contractor to the U.S. Gov't. is your customer. Here's another thing - The PMP cert is a joke. What you have is a bunch of people drinking the PMI kool-aid and stroking each other about this magical PMI world. It's like a cult. It doesn't have to be this way. As I said before, the PMP knowledge is very useful. Also, the test is about 10X more difficult than it needs to be. In their minds, the credential is stronger because you have to pass a super-rigorous examination. The truth is that the subject matter isn't difficult at all - they intentionally fill the exam with subjective and deceptive questions to make it appear more difficult than it really is. I passed the exam the first time, but I didn't feel certain that I passed until the result was posted.By contrast, an organic chemistry exam is difficult because the subject matter is difficult. The PMP exam is difficult because a group of losers intentionally made it that way. It's part of an ongoing effort make the cert seem more prestigious. ^interesting....i have heard from multiple people that the exam is quite difficult, just like you said. Do you work in any sort of project/program management position?

certifications like this always seem like a joke. some people are incapable of managing anything, regardless of how many classes and tests they take. Some people have the midas touch, and some people have the midas touch except that everything they touch turns to shit.
