Or, just maybe, it could be that women are limited to 1 child every 9 months while a man can produce as many offspring in 9 months as there are women. Evolutionarily, therefore, women are more valuable than men.

I've never doubted, however, that women are capable of being just as tough as men. Perhaps more so since our "toughness" is born out of societal pressure, while women are "permitted" to be weak.
