Quote :
"Raleigh, N.C. — A Raleigh man headed to breakfast with his groomsmen on his wedding day was killed after being ejected from the car he was riding in, according to Father Salvatore Busichio, who planned to officiate the wedding Saturday.

Christopher Raynor, 28, of 9240 Bruckhaus St., was scheduled to marry Karen Taylor at Raleigh's Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Church, Busichio said.

Raynor was riding in the backseat when another car ran a red light and hit the vehicle at the intersection of Lumley and Westgate roads around 7:30 a.m., authorities said. A third vehicle then ran over Raynor, according to a police report.

Police charged James Howard Early, of 17 Lynwood Road in Asheville, with a red light violation and misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.

Raleigh police have not determined if Raynor was wearing his seat belt. He was taken to WakeMed where he later died.

Busichio said he told guests arriving at the church the news of the wreck. Family and friends gathered and held a memorial service. Busichio said the bride spoke to the audience and told them she will always love Raynor.

"The (bride) got into the pulpit after the service was over. She was explaining her feelings, and she was very gallant, very brave," Busichio said. "She thanked everyone for coming and said she realized by being there (that) it had strengthened her and her love for him.""

I was a groomsmen. I am still in shock. This entire day seems like a scene out of a movie. Anyways - both families are taking it really hard. We appreciate everyones thoughts and prayers.

I seriously can't even imagine.

And I'd rather not even try to.

I actually cried when I read the article earlier. Not just a few tears, seriously full-on cry. I can't even imagine how difficult it must have been for her.

Seriously this is one of the worst things that could happen in the world. My thoughts go to the family and bride, her braveness is admirable.

i feel bad for both sides

obviously, mostly for the groom

but, the guy who ran a red light at the wrong place and wrong time has this on his conscience

running a red light could be.. worst case scenario, deliberately running a preturned red light, or skipping through yellow at the last second

comprehensive psychological evaluations need to be made for all directly involved

The way the timing is set up on changing from yellow to red on one light and then red to green on the other light, I'd say there's no way he was skipping through a yellow light. Light likely turned from yellow to red a few seconds earlier than he anticipated, or he didn't see the yellow because he was occupied via texting or something and then didn't know how fast it would change.

I'm no CE traffic guy, of course.

WHY did I click on this thread?

Not that it's a huge deal, but he lived two streets down from me. And where he got hit, is right by where I live.

Such a tragedy and I can't imagine how much courage and strength it took for the bride to stand up and talk to everyone at the wedding.

the light for 440 and jones franklin has no delay between turning red for traffic exiting 440 and turning green for traffic traveling on jones franklin. I've always thought that it's a very dangerous intersection.

Have not seen him in years or kept up with him at all but I remember him back in hs and he was one of the funniest, most enjoyable people to be around. I just found out a few weeks ago he was engaged. I can't believe this.

This is a good reason to wear a seat belt. Herb Brooks also died in a car wreck when he didn't wear his seatbelt and so did a distant friend of my family. I hope this guy was smart enough to wear his.

^It doesn't matter. You should always wear your seatbelt because it increases your chances of survival in any wreck.

if compartmentalization wasn't enough to save him, I seriously doubt a lap belt would have made him any better off.

people die even in raleigh quite often and you guys are only sad about this because it was his wedding day? what about married people that die? what about children that die? what about newbabies that are mudered legally? that doesn't phase you. but when a middle america man dies on his wedding day its a tragedy. I'm not sayin it iisn't. I'm just saying all the deaths you ignore ARE. Don't treat this one any more seriously.

you people
