Was talking with someone today about whether I'd rather hit/kill a squirrel or a rabbit with my car. I said squirrel, but it got me thinking... of the following, which would you least want to hit with your car? Which would you feel the worst about killing?

deer
possum
rabbit
squirrel
raccoon
dog
cat

I think to make it fair, let's exclude the damage it would cause - this is purely a moral question (in other words, don't rank deer worst just b/c it would fuck up your car).

my list:
1. dog/cat (especially if it had a collar/tags)
2. deer
3. rabbit
4. squirrel
5. bird
6. raccoon
7. possum

I drove 60 MPH through a cloud of thousands of blackbirds that stretched for 1/3rd of a mile. Two other cars behind me locked up their wheels when the mass started moving across the road. You know what? I didn't hit a single damned bird because they made this weird pocket in the mass for my Cherokee. The larger the animal, the less evasive they are to being hit, so I would try to avoid those.

i was going to reply to this until i saw the morality disclaimer. i would only really feel bad about if its someone's pet. i hold all wildlife in the same esteem and really have no preference other than the amount of damage it may cause.

I'd feel kinda bad about a cat, but I'm pretty sure I hit one already and didn't feel all that bad.

Next would be deer, I dunno why.

Then the rest would be tied.

theyre largely endangered or threatened, and then im pretty sure you could "feel" it under your tire

I for one, have never hit a terrapin. I did pick one up once when I was on a dirtbike trail and put him in my pack and took him for the rest of the ride before I dropped him off at the edge of the woods.

Out of what's on the list, I'd say deer, b/c it can, as said above, destroy your car. However, the thing I'd like to hit the least is a skunk. I say this based on actually hitting one, and having to smell that every time I got near my car for the next week.

I don't understand why people would feel bad about hitting a deer. Motherfuckers need to be killed. I have literally gotten out of my truck to move box turtles across the road, but wouldn't give two shits about a deer.
