holy shit dude... I was just talking about a situation like that about an hour ago. I was watching a movie with a friend of mine. the chick in the film had a belt of explosives and I asked, if you got blown in half would there be a time you would still be conscious?... If he severed his femoral artery he would have needed a tourniquet (although I realize it would have been tricky seeing as it wasn't just part of his leg cut off)... They could have possibly made one around his lower abdomen (what was left of it ) to try and control the bleeding. Also, someone could have been monitoring his vitals until the ambulance got there instead of just forming a circle around the poor guy and taking pictures with their phones
