is out of controlApparently some promotion ended and now my bill is $183/mo.....this is ridiculousdoes anybody know what I can do to get them to lower my bill without cancelling a bunch of channels?I have hi speed internet, HD Cable and HD DVRWhen I moved here in 05 i had a very similar package and was paying $113/mo and every year they raise my rates ~$30, i call and say wtf, and then they say 'well we can lower your bill $15 by doing this and that. Every year I reluctantly said 'fine' and let them do it, but i'm just sick of it nowhas anybody had any success in getting time warner to actually give you a good deal on cable/internet? Is there a certain thing I could say, like threaten to switch to DirectTV or something?thanks

quit your bitching.
10/5/2009 5:30:35 PM
dish gave me 3 free months of hbo and showtime for namedropping uverse
10/5/2009 5:30:44 PM
yea, call and threaten to switch to at&t
10/5/2009 5:31:10 PM
sweet jesus that's a lot of money!
10/5/2009 5:32:22 PM
mine went up an assload too after i lived here a year. i just cancelled everything and set up a computer as a dvr box (they never cut my tv off, just cut the box)[Edited on October 5, 2009 at 5:32 PM. Reason : ^^ that won't work. they'll say ok do it]
10/5/2009 5:32:29 PM
Call them up and say "these prices are ridiculous, you wanna lower them back down to $x/mo that I was paying x years ago?"Then when they say "no" say "ok, then cancel all of my services."After that, go sign up for earthlink's cable internet service and pocket the money for a while until you see a deal you like offered by a satellite TV company or by TWC (or when uverse heads your way). Not having TV is something you can get used to pretty quickly.
10/5/2009 5:32:40 PM
well, lemme say thisI did call once, told them my bill was too expensive, adn i'm gonna switch to DirectTV unless they'll do something about itthey offered me the same "we can lower it $15" crap even though they JUST raised it $30 so really they are just increasing my shit $15, and I said 'you do that every year and it's retarded, just go back to the $150 you were charging me' and the lady said 'im sorry that was a promotion you were on and we just aren't offering that promotion anymore'idk what to say next. It almost felt as if they were gonna call my bluff and let me cancel
10/5/2009 5:33:51 PM
this is true, i hardly even use my tuner anymore... so even if they cut it off, i'd be fine. i get all my shows either streaming on the web or through torrents. i dont have to miss anything, and i have the show within maybe 12 hours of it coming onthe only problem was live sports, and i get that now with justin.tv as of this weekend
10/5/2009 5:34:27 PM
i can't imagine spending $100+ a month for fucking televisioncancel cable, go outside and learn somethingholy crud
10/5/2009 5:38:46 PM
cancel your goddamned cable, it's all garbage.i did 6 months ago, and i dont miss it one bitalthough i have an alternate arrangement for high-speed broadband where our whole townhouse community co-ops what is essentially a business connection.
10/5/2009 5:40:40 PM
mines like 56 a month just for internet
10/5/2009 5:41:45 PM
^^^^That's exactly what I do. I canceled my cable after the promotion ran up. I thought it was going to suck, but it's actually sort of nice and the extra money doesn't hurt. The only negative is not having all the live sports, but you can usually find those streaming online.[Edited on October 5, 2009 at 5:43 PM. Reason : .]
10/5/2009 5:42:44 PM
not canceling my cable. I have a roommate who's pretty addicted to that shit he wouldn't be very happy and frankly neither would ii thought maybe somebody knew some tricks on how to manipulate the system
10/5/2009 5:44:15 PM
You can call and bitch about it,threaten to cancel your cable, and they'll lower it to almost what it was.But first they'll try to get you to sign a 2 year contract. It's like a cell phone contract in that you pay a fee for early cancellation;but unlike a cell phone contract where they give you a $400 phone, TWC isn't giving you anything. And then, 6 months from now, I guarantee they'll raise your rate again.I dealt with that shit for the past two years.I was so fed up with them I switched to AT&T U-Verse.They have good pricing and your rate is guaranteed for two years without signing a contract.Look into it and shoot me a PM if you decide to switch...I can get a referral bonus off of it.
10/5/2009 5:44:46 PM
If I lived alone I would not have any TV service.
10/5/2009 5:45:24 PM
Since you have a roommate cant you just cancel yours and open another account under his name, or vice versaI know 4 people who live together who have pulled that stunt for 3 years running with no problems
10/5/2009 5:45:38 PM
10/5/2009 5:46:24 PM
live sports is the last frontier that stops me from forsaking cable television permanently.streaming works in a pinch, but the quality isn't there yet for it to be a fulltime option.but I have a feeling that soon the streaming tech will advance to a level where i can finally tell TWC to suck my asshole.
10/5/2009 5:46:30 PM
that's not a bad idea, maybe i can get him to call and ask time warner about pricing info and see if they'll offer a good deal and if they do, i'll cancel mine and we'll get him setup
10/5/2009 5:47:09 PM
10/5/2009 5:50:23 PM
How the hell was it even $113 to begin with? I have high speed internet and HD cable with the Showtime package, and its still less than $80. Is DVR really worth that much?
10/5/2009 5:50:44 PM
dvr is worth its weight in goldThe only thing I watch live is sports, and I find myself trying to FF thru the commercials out of habit
10/5/2009 5:53:24 PM
im so good with the stuff i record on my tuner that i can click exactly through commercials

LEARN TO READMOST TV IS SHITTY ANYWAYSI'm AstralAdvent and i approved this message.
10/5/2009 5:55:06 PM
I'd call and threaten to switch to direct TV or dish network unless they give you a reasonable price. If it doesn't work, then actually switch.
10/5/2009 5:56:28 PM
I like impressing girls with my FF skillsThey're like "Stop, you went too far !"But I know the exact 1.3 seconds you need to go past the start of the show to have it start perfectly, right when the rating logo comes on the top corner
10/5/2009 5:56:31 PM
^haha i do that shit tooI'm AstralAdvent and i approved this message.[Edited on October 5, 2009 at 5:57 PM. Reason : but i never would've revealed the secret.]

I am locked in for two years at and my hd digital cable with dvr and highspeed road runner is 96$ a month.i recently had some issues with them and they gave me a month free cable and internet and a 10$ credit, then they never actually gave me that month free and i got past due notices, they found they're mistake when i went into the office and i said i need something else done so they gave me showtime free for a year and the current campaign on road runner. i was paying 42.99 they are now lowering it to 34.99 for a year! which both those things ends up being $200 worth
10/5/2009 6:01:28 PM
yeah for that price you could get a good directv / earthlink combo and call it a day.
10/5/2009 6:05:30 PM
About a week left to sign up for DirecTV's Sunday Ticket + Premier Package for 59.99If you drop my account number then it will be 49.99 (probably like 60 after fees/taxes) and you get every channel DTV offers (within reason), plus Sunday Ticket for 5 months. Then it jumps to 130/mo or you knock the package down for 80/mo[Edited on October 5, 2009 at 6:11 PM. Reason : .]
10/5/2009 6:10:17 PM
10/5/2009 6:20:34 PM
i have dish network with 2 receivers, DVR, HD, and att DSL for a grand total of $85 EVERY monthtime warner sucks
10/5/2009 6:22:21 PM
Wait....so why are you bitching about paying for all the services you are receiving??Man up and pay what you're suppose to...or reduce your package.
10/5/2009 6:23:48 PM
my shit is 60 alone for internet. i cant afford cable I usually just go to a bar for the live sports.
10/5/2009 10:39:31 PM
mine's $109 for internet, HD cable + showtime + hbo + starz + DVRthe promotion ended a few months ago and it went up to nearly $200called, threatened to switch back to directv, and they extended my promotion for another year
10/5/2009 10:43:15 PM
Call them and ask for a copy of your bill every day of the month. When they finally ask why, tell them that you can't understand the price.
10/5/2009 10:44:36 PM
Bunch of jewish mother fuckers up in this thread.
10/5/2009 10:45:18 PM
10/5/2009 10:48:33 PM
Oh - cable - as torrents are just too complex.
10/5/2009 10:53:27 PM
My friend had this happen to her a few months ago. Her bill went from like $150 to over $250 a month. So, she called them up and I think she added some bullshit channel or something for like $5 and they gave her the old rate back.
10/5/2009 10:58:57 PM
I called Time Warner a few months back to tell them I was ending service and switching to AT&T and they called me from customer service about 8 times over the next 4 days
10/5/2009 11:01:11 PM
I only have roadrunner and I had to literally put in an order to disconnect the service before they were willing to improve the rate. (It went up $20 and I got them to take off $10.)
10/5/2009 11:17:21 PM
I torrent the shows I enjoy, and pay 200 bucks for NHL gamecenter (work pay for my high speed)Cable is for suckers. You are tossing $texas for threes company reruns and House of Payne.

Yeah if it weren't for Sunday Ticket and my roommates I definitely would not have any reason to subscribe to television.
10/6/2009 12:24:27 AM
I would recommend keeping the roadrunner - unless you can get fios or uverse - and hitting up TurboHD from Dish. It's pretty sweet, and every channel is HD.
