Have you had/would you have an optional elective surgery? (lipo, breast implants, lasik)

If so, what kind? If no, why? It seems everyone here in Florida has had some work done. It's bizarre. Everyone's a little plastic. Lots of fake bewbs and calf implants.

I think the only thing I'd want is Lasik. It would make sports so much easier.

isn't "optional elective" repetitive and redundant?

Not redundant according to the Surgery Encyclopedia: http://www.surgeryencyclopedia.com/Ce-Fi/Elective-Surgery.html

Quote :
"
Definition

An elective surgery is a planned, non-emergency surgical procedure. It may be either medically required (e.g., cataract surgery), or optional (e.g., breast augmentation or implant) surgery.
"

^^ Twoozles, what size would you want?

i have breathing and speech problems which i suspect can probably be helped by some kind of elective surgery.

haven't done it, but might in the future

Ooh, you know what would be cool? Having a gun for a leg like Rose McGowan in "Planet Terror."

Or I'd get breast implants if they could install lasers in my boobs so I could shoot people who made me angry.

there are some good things about it... i can wear more bathing suits and tank tops without looking totally skanky and falling out all over the place. but if i had spent more time thinking about it i would have at least waited to have it done and hopefully found a better surgeon

I played catcher for over 10 years and never got hit in the face. That's why you wear a mask.

^^ My three bffs here have fake boobs. All three tell me I should get them. Unfortunately, bigger boobs would prob interfere with my marathon time and I want to qualify for the 2010 Boston marathon.

I had PRK done back in 2005 and I LOVE it. Granted it was free, which helped, but hey . . .

I've got friends who've done LASIK and they're fans as well. FWIW.

^ big boobs are overrated. Small and firmish FT(long-term)W.

I might have Lasik at some point.

But I look GQ in glasses...so that would be the only con. And I'm not gay enough to wear glasses without needing them.

^^ I know. I love the way I look in my glasses. Unfortunately, I don't have contacts yet, so when I play tennis, I really can't see the ball very well.

Plus, as often as I play water sports, lasik is a much better option than glasses or contacts.

I dunno about that. My friend down there that has them routinely runs marathons. I think sometimes people forget that you don't have to get triple-D's when you get implants.

^^I don't have contacts either. I also don't play sports where I really need glasses. I gave up golf a long time ago...and I don't think I'm that blind to where I couldn't see a tennis ball (I have pretty bad nearsightedness...but not that bad I guess).

My only thing is that I scratch the shit out of my glasses and always lose them.

i wasn't fat enough either, which is why insurance wouldn't cover it and we had to pay out of pocket...and that's the reason my surgeon is in Denver he was the cheapest in the US.

I'd lipo my thighs before getting boobs. But if I got boobs, I'd def go up to DDs. Otherwise, I don't really see the point of going under the knife.

you can eat around the band, i.e. eat foods that pass through easily that are not good for you.

for example, ice cream, potato chips, cream-based soups, and high-calorie drinks

yeah, i'd probably be too scared to go under the knife unless I really thought I needed it

and I have heard of a lot of people that have gotten gastric bypass/lap band that will still stretch their stomachs out so that they can eat a lot of food

I think you really need to deal with the psychological issues of why you overeat before trying to do something that drastic

hah i'm not trying to derail this thread and all, but gastric bypass is the one commonly associated with gaining the weight back and stretching the stomach back out. with the lap band it's extremely hard to stretch your stomach out, simply because there's a silicone band in place that isn't going to move - so stretching the stomach out is rather painful. you'll puke before you can eat that much. trust me

Lap band is way safer than gastric bypass. When gastric bypass goes wrong, it goes WAY wrong. I like the flexibility of the lap band procedure.

when i get pregnant, i won't have to worry about malnutrition because i can very easily have the lap band loosened so that i can eat more bypass patients have problems with malnutrition when they have babies.
