On a bill that
Quote :
"will prevent federal funding from going to any contractor that requires its employees to use mandatory binding arbitration, instead of court, for sexual assault and civil rights claims against the company."

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ap/tx/6655507.html

Senators who voted no:
Alexander (R-TN)

Bond (R-MO)
Brownback (R-KS)
Bunning (R-KY)
Burr (R-NC)
Chambliss (R-GA)
Coburn (R-OK)
Cochran (R-MS)
Corker (R-TN)
Cornyn (R-TX)
Crapo (R-ID)
DeMint (R-SC)
Ensign (R-NV)

Jack-in-the-box "court alternative", or anal rape, depending on why one is in arbitration. Arbitration companies have a vested interest in pleasing the companies that hire them, so nearly all arbitration decisions are in favor of the company. Even if it'd unequivocally be in favor of the consumer if it were ever taken to real court.

It's scary as shit, shady and hell, and ought not to exist. If it does, it should be optional - not some condition of, say, buying a house from a builder, or as a condition of employment, or any of the dozens and dozens of scenarios where you cannot participate in a business or working relationship without agreeing to it. It should be opt-in...instead of what it currently is, which is forced. You can't even opt out.
