well if your pilot light is on the top of the stove then the area around the pilot should be a little warm because there is a small open flame

[Edited on October 11, 2009 at 5:46 PM. Reason : wait, you mean your oven is on and the stove top is hot]

idk why it would be hot; my stovetop gets a little warm, but not hot enough to burn skin, when the oven is on.

Does your oven vent through one of the eyes? I've heard of that.

I have gas too and I can touch the stove while the oven is on

most electric ovens vent through the right-rear burner (unless they have the glass top, obviously)

not sure about gas ovens, though

Look dudes

It has nothing to do with whether or not the oven is on

i have a gas stove. it is the pilot lights. depends on the design of the stove as to how hot it gets up top.

mine is hot as hell. i can't really keep my hand on it.
