Why do women sit so god damn close to the steering wheel. For some reason they like to drive with their whole forearm on the steering wheel. Do they not realize if the airbag goes off its going to kill them?

I think the real problem here is women behind the wheel.

The question should be...why are women even allowed to drive? Own motor vehicles? Put on shoes and walk outside?

dumbass, its cause they're short-- gotta scoot the seat up far to reach the peddles. Even if you lean the chair back, it'll only take you back so far.

^ thats what i though but some of them are tall enough to not have the chair all the way forward and they still drive like that.

^ I'm pretty short. So if I want to try and save face and not get a seat cushion I need to scooch that seat on up a little closer.

Since I'm just over 5 ft tall, it's so I can reach everything.

I was told by responders that sitting as close as I did to the steering wheel saved me once in a bad car accident. The car was T-boned on the driver's side by a large truck. Pulling my seat forward moved me away from the point of impact. I did bend the steering column when I hit it, but I was relatively unhurt all things considered.

mark martin says "sitting close to the wheel so that you can put your whole forearm on it will help keep you from tiring out after 500 laps"

i like being close to the wheel for better car control but am limited because i have really long legs. sitting comfortably back in your seat your wrist should be just past the top of the steering wheel without leaning forward.

much truth to this. Every NASCAR driver sets up like this. Many professional drivers do too. However, they don't have airbags to snap their neck. I prefer to drive close in as well for the same reason (it really does make a difference on the track), but unfortunately Hondas are made for shorter people than I.

everyone makes fun of the way I sit when I drive

I have great posture so I sit straight up, but being tall that puts me kinda close to the wheel even though my seat is pushed all the way back (but the back of the seat is straight up)

when other people drive my car, they're always like "wtf?! how do you drive like this?!"

I have to drive sitting straight up. I cannot stand driving in a somewhat reclined position. Drives me batshit. Granted that isn't driving me far, but still...

I keep my seat way back and put the recline on super so that the car's B-pillar can block 70% of the gunshots that are aimed at my head. It's like that when you're from Rocky Mount though.
