hi.

i started an exercise program in the recent to somewhat recent past.

i'm here to tell you and everyone who'll listen (or is forced to listen) to about it, and how i'm so much better than you b/c i do it.

now, i even bike to work, or take my lunch to go biking b/c it's physical activity and is green.

i feel like i'm superior to people still behoven to automobiles, and it's another hting i can turn my nose up at.

i like that feeling

even though

i know deep inside

i'm still a prick and everyone hates me

^^And?

I work in RTP and it's a 10-15 minute drive on I-40. It takes about 35 minutes on a bike.

If there was an accident on I-40, I'd probably get there faster on a bike.

^Yeah that's a bit much. I wouldn't even want to drive that distance each day.

^3 And? I don't give a shit how long it takes you to get to work. A) I like my sleep. B) I drive a back way and the intersection I have to go through is a mad house and I don't want to die trying to cross it. C) I don't have a bike. D) I wouldn't do it even if I DID have a bike.

Your argument was that it takes you 10-15 minutes to drive, therefore it must be too long. That's really not that bad.

I was just saying I don't give a shit how long it takes him, it's not going to convince me

^ I consider 10-15 too long because I'm impatient. So 35 minutes is just a no-go for me.

I drive to work because I hate the planet and navigating my old, inefficient SUV through masses of half-awake, bitter, disenfranchised wage slaves stuck on I40 makes me happy.

Or maybe its because I don't have a job right now, and therefore I don't have a work to drive to.

Either/or, your pick

Even though I'm unemployed, I've actually considered getting in my car and just driving up and down I40 a couple of times during morning and evening rush hour just to add to the congestion. Somehow knowing I don't actually have to go to work would make sitting in traffic with a bunch of people who do have to be at work somewhat entertaining.

How much money can one save when they spend a bunch of money on a bike & accessories to commute 15 miles a day? I mean, that's like three gallons of gas a week for most of us. Look at me, I save $7.50 a week wearing these tight shorts and it only cost me a thousand bucks to do it.

The bicycle is the new high horse.

busy fast roads, no bike lane, busy bridge, weather, poor intersections

i also need a new(er) bike and a good (not broken) helmet

if there was a bike lane the whole way i probably would ride (kinda hilly but nothing obscene)

Even if I picked, say, an incredibly expensive and great commuter like the Trek Portland ($1699) and compared it to a cheap commuter, say a Toyota Yaris ($12000), the investment for the car is still a hundred times more than the bicycle.

riding a bike to work from south raleigh to rtp simply would not be practical

unless you are talking about motorcycles... in which case, I would never feel safe enough on that drive. Hell, half the mornings I would feel scared of other drivers and I am in a big ol' truck
