yes i did find it sketchy when i read about it several days agobut seriously think about how many people run those things and do a lot (any?) marathons require health screenings before you can run? the older people don't surprise me as much as the younger ones - but they probably had some condition they weren't aware of

The temperatures might be the culprit. I've run two marathons and it's much harder to run, IMO, when it's THAT cold. Doesn't your blood slow in cold weather, causing your heart to work harder to pump blood to your vital organs?

your body temp doesn't change (much) , so no, your blood isn't going to flow slower in cold weather.
