I went to some of these. A few times in Caswell, NC and a couple of times at Mars Hill college.

It wasn't nearly that emotional or extreme.

And we called it "God Camp"

And there were no dinosaurs

I don't know if I understand your question completely.

I don't know what really to say McDanger. I am def creeped out by these camps and I feel my response is a normal human reaction. I try not to look down on them bc maybe they are truly feeling what they show, I guess I just don't believe in public theatrics and extreme emotion for the crowd or peer pressure. I love Jesus, I try to have a relationship with God by praying, studying and reading the bible. All of it, blah blah blah, women oppression and contradiction. I have cried about what I know Jesus did for me and also about the sacrifice that God has made for me. I have a heart for the down trodden so I feel it is my place to be their servant (that is the main idea of Jesus's ministry to me) and I try to use my talents for God. I serve a mystic God. I am also an intellectual that tries to understand why I believe in this mystic God so much. I believe that God=love=science=math=humanity. I have to say some of my favorite authors about the subject of God are Richard Dawkins and Karen Armstrong. Jeez, I am a blasphemous cop out.

I guess I did know a little of what to say.

I have talked with many different people in different cultures about different religions and have taken many college courses and have read many books and for some reason I keep coming back to my mystic God who sent Jesus down to earth. Belief is an incredible thing and I think it takes a lot of guts to try to live it out...so I guess, their reaction was not an overreaction. blech. whatever.

They are likely truly feeling what they claim, but that’s not really relevant. It’s easy to make someone have a religious experience (all religions do it), it’s dastardly to make kids have these experiences for the purpose of manipulating them.

Basically they put them around some people who are just as lame as them, and while they're high on the rush of actually getting some social interaction they harness that energy to make them think it's a religious experience.
