i memorized 800 words for the SAT... almost 30 a day. everyday, i would also go over (test myself) all words from all previous days.

make sure to memorize all words from most frequently occurring list; usually about 300 words (at least in the barron's book).

No, I went to state for my Master's. I went to Hamilton College, Clinton, NY, a highly selective 4-year college, ranked in the top 25 every year among 4-year colleges (US News and World Report). Their average SAT score at that time was about 1250, maybe upto 1300.

Anyway, you gotta remember that competition among international students wanting to study in the US is far more intense. The average SAT score of international students is around 150 points higher than that of the whole entering class at most places. Sometimes 200 points higher.

1300 the first time. (700 M, 600 V)
1450 the second time, after a year. (730 M, 720 V)

so you went to a blue-blood daycare center with a staff dedicated to teaching the use of language and then immediately come on the wolfweb and dedicate 2 solid years to being completely surprised at how poorly you communicate

Troll away, Fermat.

You wish you had gone to the school I did, or a similar one. One of the most beautiful campuses around, with acres of natural forest. And beautiful buildings.

Campus 65% the size of NC State's campus.

But with only 5% of NC State's students.

Great professors, great facilities and buildings, small class sizes, great food, great dorms.

I communicate poorly? OK. You are the first one ever in my life to say that... guess my profs (or friends, family, colleagues, students, etc) never had the guts to tell me.

probably not, but also shows how little you knew about NCSU's campus... i haven't noticed how natural forest does anything to further the learning experience short of forestry or related subjects...

i'm sure some do wish they went to a school like that, but i doubt Fermat is one of them

i don't mean to shit on your school, but you DO know US news and world report's college ranking system is little more than a beauty pageant, right?

^ I wasn't boasting about going to this or that school. I was responding to NRR about why I memorized 800 new words for the SAT (because the higher-ranked the school, the higher the average SAT score at said school, so you need to get a high score to have a good chance of getting in). Having said that, check out this link:

http://www.hamilton.edu/admission/counselors/testingstats.html

And as I also said, even if I had come to NCSU or an even lower ranked school, I still would have had to get a [much] higher than average score as the competition for international students is murderous! The year I got into Hamilton, ~400 international students applied. I don't know how many were accepted, but about 15 enrolled. (I would guess about 40 were accepted)
