jeffrey maier is the sole reason i started hating the yankees. kind of unreasonable, but i was only 10 or so at the time. plus i'm an orioles fan, and the o's ended up losing to the yankees in the ALCS that year. i already accepted that the yankees are most likely going to win the world series before it even started, and surprisingly i'm not that upset about it.
