ok here's the answer:

1) Put the chicken in the boat, row it over to the other side, leaving the fox and the grain by themselves

2) row back

3) put the grain in the boat and row it over to the chicken

4) on reaching the other side, leave the grain, but put the chicken BACK into the boat and return to the fox

5) put the fox in the boat and leave the chicken by itself

6) leave the fox with the grain

7) go back and pick up chicken and return to the other side

8) BAM! now you've got the chicken, fox and grain all together!

there are five pints of apple butter in a water bath right now, and three quarts of apple pie filling, with 3 more quarts ready to go in once the apple butter comes out

3 quarts of hot-packed squash soup
6? 7? pints of corn relish
6 pints of apple pie jam
3 pints of chili


...and I'm still not done

but maybe I know what to do now with the pint my mom insisted I take

(what is still to be made: vegetable stock, lentil soup, and apple rosemary jelly).

Despite all the apples...we still didn't use all ours

...But! Mom scored me a $150 pressure cooker for $20 off craigslist today. YAHOO!
