Coming home from RDU last night, I couldn't hardly see a damn fucking lane marker in the construction area. It was scary and frustrating as all hell. I could start to see them when they were just in front of my bumper (compared to a couple yards with regular paving and paint)The paint is almost translucent, it's not reflective, and reflectors are missing. Add to that the mirror effect on the road from the rain, and: GODDAMN. I just figured I was getting old http://www.wral.com/news/local/story/6409124/[Edited on November 13, 2009 at 12:35 AM. Ok, I thought I was getting old and my eyes were getting shitty too. I noticed this recently in the rain at night, and I felt like a i was losing it. I'm glad I'm not the only one who couldn't see shit out there.

The paint on finished sections is retroreflective meaning that the light from your headlamps reflect back at the your car. They mix small bits of glass with the paint to have it reflect like it needs to. Once they get the surface course of asphalt down, they'll paint it up right ;D

I kept checking to make sure my headlights were on.

Haha...it's amazing how much we Americans take reflective paint and markers on roads for granted. Roads in Italy are not reflective, narrow as shit, not lit at all, and are full of Italian drivers.

I had the same problems with the beltline after they repaved it... they finally got the reflectors on recently, but that shit was scary.

That little segment about not being able to put down thermoplastic until the spring is BS. I have had it put down as long as it is 40F and rising

if they put it down with it too cold and it didn't last, taxpayers would whine then too

I felt the same about the 440 repaving...did not like!

I was having the same problem on Tuesday night when all this rain was coming in. I seriously couldn't see shit. Best way I found to stay in the lane was to keep to the inside lane and stay a more or less constant distance from the guardrail.

My eyes are getting weary. My back is getting tight.I’m sitting here in traffic on the I-40 tonight. But I don’t care 'cause all I want to doIs cash my check and drive right home to you.Cause Baby, all my life, I will be driving home to you.

What's scared me this past week was when I went to change lanes. Felt like a 6 inch drop. It caught me off guard because I wasn't expecting it. It was also raining pretty hard.
