Old thread here: http://www.thewolfweb.com/message_topic.aspx?topic=562883

I'ma holla at some of these:

http://www.tomsshoes.com/ProductDetails.aspx?CategoryID=7&productID=267#pageTop

It's getting cold, and I'm not gonna go another winter in flip flops (on extra cold days, I'd just rock my mom's old slippers). I woulda gotten some Uggs a long time ago, except you know, they're Uggs.

So it looks like TOMS is helping me make a little baby step towards real shoes.

The philanthropic aspect is nice, but more than that, these shoes are just awesome. Like, slipper/sneakers...and you can wear them without people looking at you funny like you're wearing your mom's old slippers...they're a dream come true.

What does TWW think?

Bridget, they still look exactly like a pair of slippers at a price that you could have bought a pair of boots to actually protect your feet through winter. Then again, you did pay to buy another pair for someone else too.

^^^^^No doubt. But even though they look like slippers, they're technically shoes...so we can get away with wearing them!

The price is too high, but I don't buy shoes very often. In fact, I don't think I've bought shoes in several years. I just take hand-me-downs and ask for a new pair of flip flops every other Christmas.

So you don't like the style or the particular style that I picked out?

And I really don't think they're that ugly--they're not gonna be crazy attractive, I'm tryna get away with wearing slippers! But "more hideous than I ever would have imagined?" That's cold, dawg.

They are that ugly

You would be better off just wearing slippers and letting people you dont give a shit then buying these letting people think you did that on purpose. It looks like someone tried to make a athletic themed slipper out of a potato sack

^^Real shoes are hard. They often require lacing, tying, clasping, etc...

Also, you can get caught up in having to match them to your outfit. And then there's multiple pairs of shoes laying all over the place...and you gotta store and organize them.

A pair of brown leather flip-flops solves all these problems. However, I am aging and will hopefully have a fancy pants adult job soon. I need to start moving towards the way of real shoes now so when I have to follow some bullshit dress code, it won't be so painful.

Just so you know I like Toms Shoes. They look weird, but they don't look that weird on feet. They are comfortable and it's going to help out kids.

just get a pair of solid color slip ons like Vans (or even an "off brand") or something for half the price. If you're worried about matching them to your outfit, they'll go with anything MUCH better than those overpriced ugly slipper/shoe/confused things will.

There is just no way I'd pay that much for something like that, thats like my upper bound for a pair of real tennis shoes (or my dress shoes for that matter) that have a lot more versatility than those things.

You're paying for two pairs of shoes technically.

I suppose. I don't even care that much about shoes (I get 1 new pair of tennis shoes every other year, and 1 new pair of dress shoes each year and thats all I wear) and I wouldn't be wearing those outside unless it was to get the paper.

I guess my point/opinion is that, sure some people like that style of shoe. And, I guess if you have lots of shoes and just want something like this thats ok. But if you are spending $70, and this is going to be your MAIN shoe outside of sandals? These just don't seem that versatile. They just look like a newer pair of "mom's old slippers". And since you already have those to borrow, I'd save the $70 or get something else.

Its not that of a deal and it doesnt bother me at all. I just can't imagine blowing $70 on what is essentially a slipper with arch support.

I'm not concerned with how silly I might look rocking slippers in public.

I've always dug the philanthropy, and them shits are wild comfortable.

and as a lifetime Vans slipper guy, Toms are arguably 100x more comfortable, and, around the same price.

What's fucked up is that you don't get jack shit when a child in need buys a pair of the same shoes.

This is socialism.

those are ugly as shit

i'd rather buy a pair of cheapo walmart canvas slip ons and give the remaining $40 to a charity so they can buy 10 kids each a pair

Yeah, but those cheapo shoes you get from walmart and give to homeless aren't as high quality as the shoes that toms gives to the kids in need. they give them those shoes too.

Alright, I'm going for it. "Wild comfortable" sums up my life's philosophy.

I was talking about my difficulty with shoes last Christmas and randomly saw this dude in a pair of TOMS, and was like, "Those are the shoes I want. That's them right there!"

Now here we are a year later, and I'm about to realize my dream...
