How far in advance would some pack for this event?.

Depends on how much notice you have. I'd say a month or so.

I would start getting boxes ASAP, and start going through items to toss/donate/sell/packing a month b4 move date...then get to packing items I use most often (ie kitchen) in the last week b4 move date

We packed for about 4 weeks prior to moving. Gave us a chance to do it leisurely and not rushed. Figured that gave us less chance to miss something or pack something poorly.

We did one room first, cleaned it out, then started putting all of the boxes we packed up into that room.

The day the movers came, it was as simple as pointing them at that room (instead of having boxes scattered everywhere).

There's nothing to keep in mind about how far.

Its about how soon you need to be gone without getting charged extra.
