Last night, the room filled with intensely bright light and there was a loud booming noise. I sprang off the 4 foot bed landing on my knee, covering my head, rolling around in the fetal position. I literally thought nuclear armaggedon had just started and I was covered in flames. I can't describe how terrified I was. It was actually a fucking police siren...

Similar thing happened when I was living on Gorman street. I would hear a gunshot (or what sounded like one) and jump onto the ground as if bullets were coming through the window. About 15 seconds later, I start wondering what the hell I'm doing.

I woke up one time when I was in that half-sleep state before you start REM cycles or whatever with Aeon Flux on the tv. There were gunshots and shit going off on the movie and somehow I started seeing Nazis goose-stepping like on The Wall and some other crazy shit. I think it took me at least 10-15 seconds to realize I was actually in my bed in my dorm room. That was some freaky shit.

I've always heard that the last minute flinch as you fall asleep is a sort of premonition of death... Not that you are going to die any time soon, but your body mistakes the onset of unconsciousness for dying and is trying to flinch away from it....

lol

yea i do the flinching thing

i used to have pretty bad nightmares but it would be stuff like me getting caught robbing a bank or something like that. i learned to wake myself up by biting my arm in my dream until i woke up.

didn't sleep good for a long time bc of it

all of my nightmares involve being chased/hiding from various things, usually either in some sort of apocalyptic scenario or it begins as a nice dream with friends in a house or dwelling of some type that ends with us being hunted down

^exactly. the two things chasing me are always zombies or expanding nuclear blasts/fallout. I know that last one doesn't make much sense, but just go with it.

I had a very lifelike dream the other morning... I thought I felt something in my right arm, such as a needle injecting something, while about to undergo surgery in a dream. I should quit drinking.

sometimes I'll wake up on the floor or across the room after having a dream about spiders descending from the ceiling onto my face while I'm sleeping.

I frequently wake up with arm asleep. I freak out and immediately try to get it back awake again. It feels like it'll fall and it drives me nuts.

The other night, I had this exact dream:

Afterwards, I woke up and punched the homosexual inmate sleeping next to me. Weird...

Yes, I've popped out of my bed and can remember the dream that caused it for only a few minutes, usually something in my dream popping out and scaring the shit out of me causes me to jump and wake myself up. By the time I wake up the next morning I forget it.

The wierdest dream I've had recently was my childhood dog had a tennis ball stuck in his teeth and his butt was glued to the ground while some bells were ringing.

At my girlfriend's old place I was awakened by a "thud" I could feel, an extremely loud bang, and what sounded like broken glass. I sprang awake, yelled something incoherent, and was in a state of blind confusion for a good many seconds. I don't know why, but in my mind, I was convinced that the TV in the living room had fallen off its stand and exploded, and that it was smoldering on the floor in several pieces. Not nuclear armageddon, but scary as hell just the same.

As it turns out, a picture had fallen off the wall and landed on a dresser covered with jewelry and other small items, explaining the bang and the "glass" sound, which was actually the small items jumping from the impact. The glass in the frame didn't even break... We never did explain the thud, but considering something had to have caused the picture to fall, we figure the neighbor on the other side of the wall either hit the wall or bumped it really hard, for reasons unknown.

I used to have the whole body flinch in class while somebody was talking after I nodded off some 5-10 minutes before.

After that I always sat very still and didn't look at anybody for fear that I might find somebody who recognized that I nap like a spaz, lol.

I get that too, and particularly when i would fall asleep in class in HS. It feels like an electric shock usually, but sometimes I feel like I'm in a freefall and jolt awake.

Also, if I put my head down on a desk to take a nap, I end up waking up with the most voluminous belches. I can feel air getting trapped somehow, like when you trap air on purpose to burp, but due to my (head/neck?) position.

My nightmares in my later life have all just been about really stressful life situations. At some point the dream turns and I find myself in a situation where for some reason have pain in my mouth, something up like my teeth are rotting out, or i'm chewing on rocks, and I slowly realize that I'm grinding the hell out of my teeth. Doesn't happen often, but when it does I have to convince myself awake before I can consciously stop clenching my jaw.
