I will usually keep an unmatched sock until I lose another single of a pair and match those together. But I have lost so many singles of the years that it has gotten a bit out of control.

What is it that you do as soon as you lose one sock? Do you get rid of it right away, or keep it for other uses?

I've used old unpaired socks as rags for clean up, like to lube the chain on my bike. I'm considering going to Target and buying 10 or 15 pair of the same style sock so that if I lose one, no biggie.

It seems like I lose socks all the damn time. I never seem to find any though so where the fuck are they going.

I generally wear any two socks I can find with long pants but am more OCD when wearing shorts.

I make them fight each other in a no holds barred death match. The winner then is allowed to go mate with all of the lady socks to make his own sock family. It seems like the only fair thing to do.

excluding dress socks and cold weather boot socks, i only have two styles of socks, so i rarely get socks without a match. i might have an odd number of that style for a while, though

i have lots of different styles of socks... i can't stand for them not to be matched. thankfully my housekeeper, who does the laundry, also washes and matches my socks and puts them in my sock drawer.

i tend to buy new socks every year, so the new ones start getting cycled into the rotation as the old ones are thrown out.

1. Buy safety pins
2. Pin your dirty socks together when you take them off and throw them in the hamper/dirty laundry pile
3. After you wash and dry them, they are already matched
4. Repeat

this year during the xmas cleanouts I'm getting rid of every sock I own and buying a 50 pack of ankle-highs and 25 pack of regulars. Top it off with new boxers & I'm all square.

i interviewed with a lady at the georgia tech business school. she had me lift up my pant legs so she could see if i was wearing dark matching socks. she said so many enginerds come through wearing white socks with suits, etc.

I am highly anal retentive, and make sure I know where one's likeness is. If it's not on my feet, it's either in the hamper to be washed, or in the sock drawer.


Even when I throw clean clothes on my bed and don't fold for a few days, I don't lose them.
