would you care?

like a pro QB or an NBA player?

i'm watching this law and order svu (haha) and its this one where a QB gets outed as gay and people go apeshit like "gay people shouldn't be allowed to play football. it is america's pastime; kids look up to the players" etc

would that really happen? i mean i'm sure some people would be pissed (who knows why) but would it be like a GIANT deal? are their out prof football players?

i feel like people love sports too much to care if a player is gay but i'm prob wrong.

ok well what had happened was

tom brady was dating gisele and they were engaged but he was really married to another dude on the side (got married in canada)

and his agent found out and killed the bf/husband

gisele was pissed but the agency paid her to keep her mouth shut so she could get a really awesome photoshoot.

i don't think anyone would freak as much over like, a gay swimmer, tennis player or gymnast. not that those aren't tough sports just...people think of football players as meatheads and meatheads aren't gay.

the reason why you won't find openly gay professional male athletes is because of the "masculinity complex" that some think is necessary to excel at sport. so long as the unwashed masses continue to think that gay equates with effeminate or emasculated, gay players have no incentive to be honest with their teammates or fans.

it's a damn shame what it says about society when someone's sexuality is more important than how well they can pass a football or shoot a freethrow.

I wouldn't care, personally. I don't care about the sexual orientation of the people I meet everyday, so why would I care if a sports figure I admire was gay?

Unfortunately I think the public reaction would be rather a big deal. The tabloids and talking heads would have a field day, plus probably you'd get some over-macho players up in arms saying they don't want a gay dude in the locker room and the showers with them. Regardless of the fact that it wasn't a big deal the day before, but... I've never been an athlete so I don't presume to know the ins and outs of that sort of camaraderie.
