After traveling a few times in the north during winter weather...I'm inclined to think those driving skills have more to do with l33t road salting/snow plowing of the northern DOTs than the drivers themselves. Seems like they (at least upstate New York and the Philly area) clear that shit fast and put down a shit ton of salt before hand. Where in NC, the DOT thinks about putting salt down and then sends out a couple dozen guys to figure out what we did with those snow plow attachments.

here in milwaukee they drive very well when it snows, then as soon as the roads are dry they think it makes them fucking invincible, they dart out of parking lots on to the road in front of you when your going 50, they jump into your lane on the interstate 6" in front of you, they ride about 4 feet over the line. But yeah, in snow they're great.

That's pretty much what I was getting at. I bet it was a caravan of southerners who were traveling through the state on their way to a Canadian hunting expedition.
