i think fire is just the guitar's natural response to the solo from Enter Sandman being played correctly

if they have insurance they'll be ok. if no one gets hurt it sucks but it's all replaceable. it's just stuff.

It sucks that it happens at this time of year for them. I wonder if they could still sell some of the instruments that didn't burn?

Damn that sucks. I loved them being across the street from each other, I could really get my jew on.

Anyone remember which store opened first? The second one is the dick, I suppose, but Sam Ash bought out that other store.

I think this is right...

The Music Loft opened first.
Then Mars Music opened across the street.
Then The Music Loft sold out, closed, or whatever and Guitar Center opened in that space.
Then Mars Music shut down.
Then a few months later Sam Ash opened up in the old Mars location.

Mars Music was great dumpster diving back in the day.

^5 Why not go one step further. Guitar Center started it because business was bad and they tried to frame Sam Ash.

It's been close for years, but it was my favorite back in the day.

next step: sam ash lit the fire but tried to make it look like an inside job so guitar center would burn down and get nailed for insurance fraud

I remember that place...I don't remember it being a Music Loft, but I might be wrong. I don't think I ever went there more than once or twice.

They were the only place in Raleigh that had a decent Ibanez selection. I think it was called The Music Connection, but it's been what seems like forever.

that was the original location of the music loft. eddier berman was the guy that owned the place. He moved to capital near the time that mars music opened on capital, maybe a year or two later. he ended up selling most of his inventory to Guitar Center (I don't remember why, probably couldn't compete with Mars' prices) and opening a mostly internet/mail order shop called Indoor Storm. I think Indoor Storm was located in the industrial park over near the ice skating rink a couple blocks off of Capital. If I remember correctly, he was selling mostly high end/boutique stuff and was a dealer for Terry McInturf, a guitar maker out of Holly Springs, NC. I don't know if he is still in business or not.

This was all 10+ years ago, so my memory is a little hazy.

look like they are still in business:

Anyone been by? I passed it on the way home from work Friday, but it was in the far lane and traffic was heavy. I didn't get a good look.

I forgot to look on my way in this morning.

It's fine. The recording room has a tarp over it, but everything else is business as usual.

There aren't any guitars in there worth buying anyway.
