I was unaware of this until last night.

It's only $1 to use.

I have a feeling that this will lead to me getting into lots of trouble one night soon...

on a handheld one, .28, but I didn't feel that drunk

If I had one with me on a day I was trying to get obliterated, I feel I could get to the mid to high .30's

not that it is anything to brag about...

it was a unique set of circumstances where I gave blood a few hours prior and ate nothing all day

so maybe there should be astericks beside that mark

Under normal circumstances, I've broken .3 a few times, but not since like 2007

I'd bet that you're using an inaccurate testing device.

I know someone who was on very little sleep and had not eaten, and got taken to the hospital because of an accident (a fall, not a car accident) and their BAC was over .4

it is definitely possible

its not like every single person in the world hits .4 and they go unconscious and die

my dad's BAC when he downed a 5th of whiskey in 10 minutes was .78

he's alive

no doubt, if you read the extreme cases at the bottom you'll see that. I think it's just more likely people in this thread didn't have good equipment to test.

0.25 is my record, accurately

[Edited on December 18, 2009 at 11:09 AM. Reason : that i've been tested at anyway]

^ not only the equipment, but you have to wait a while after you drink for the results to be accurate. My friend has a little portable breathalyzer and we can get that sucker up over .2 easy by just downing a beer and blowing on it immediately.

Thats why the cops ask how long ago you had a drink when you get pinched

.08 is really low

You can get there on 3 non-light beers over say 45 minutes and not feel anything at all

Most people are cool to drive up to double that, imo

these charts:

question: when i had to take an alcohol class (for insurance purposes when i was bartending), one of the things they told us is that... if two poeple drink the same amount, their BAC should NOT change that much from person to person, regardless of weight. (assuming they are both adults)
the reason behind this is because whether you are a 200 lb man or a 125 lb woman you still have roughly the same amount of blood.
now im sure that metabolism plays a role in here but im not sure how. is the 200 lbs man metabolism higher? but what if its lower (thats why he's 200 lbs)

Are these charts incorrect considering you never really know a person's metabolism?
Or am I incorrect and people DO have different amounts of blood?

and BAC does not equate to how a drunk a person acts btw.
so no anecdotal stories of how woman A drank two beers and was running all over the place and woman B had 6 and was fine. thats a tolerance and mental thing

im talking plain old BAC....

im going to the gym. have answers for me t-dub.

There is no way a 200lb man and 125lb woman have the same amount of blood in their body. But I am no expert lol.

it just led to me and my friends drinking more and more to see how high we could get our BAC

this doesn't seem sanitary.. do you get your own little plastic tube for the dollar? i don't know how they work, I've only blown twice, .00 and .02 the day after

Yes, this device uses regular straws. There is a built in straw dispenser; you just take one, strick it in a hole and then blow.

LOL. They done told you wrong.

Quote :
"In general, the less you weigh the more you will be affected by a given amount of alcohol. As detailed above, alcohol has a high affinity for water. Basically one's blood alcohol concentration is a function of the total amount of alcohol in one's system divided by total body water. So for two individuals with similar body compositions and different weights, the larger individual will achieve lower alcohol concentrations than the smaller one if ingesting the same amount of alcohol.

However, for people of the same weight, a well muscled individual will be less affected than someone with a higher percentage of fat since fatty tissue does not contain very much water and will not absorb very much alcohol. "

^that makes sense i guess....it sounds like a metabolism thing. (you can metabolize it faster if you have more body water)

i thought the largest factor is how quickly your liver can remove the alcohol from your blood. It's not like the alcohol goes straight to your muscle or fat tissue to be absorbed. IDK!

I'm surprised it took that long for the haters to make an appearance

I think its a great starting point for a night of debauchery. Usually pretty empty till 10:30/11 on weekends so you have the run of the bar more or less. Flip cup, beer pong, etc and cheap drinks. Come 11 or so when you're all liquored up you can slide over to another bar where they overcharge you for drinks.

generally speaking, women have smaller livers than men, which means women inherently get drunk "faster" as their smaller livers aren't able to process the alcohol as fast as a man's liver

they also don't have as efficient and as much of various alcohol dehyrogenases (nor to Asians or Native Americans in general) so they can not break it down as quickly

No.

In humans, blood volume is relative to body weight - its about 7% of your body weight. If me and a 125lb person both drink 10 shots the 125lb person will have more alcohol per unit volume of blood.
