Do you not realize how much happier you (your wallet) and your pet would be if you used a company that visits your pets in your own home while you are away?

I happen to work for one, I won't name it because I haven't bought an ad, but why would you choose to board over the alternatives?

Because I've lived in this area for 6 months. Because it's a much smaller city, and doesn't have the same kinds of resources. Because I don't trust a stranger to come into my house.

^^ In 6 months I haven't made any friends that are going to be here for Christmas, either. Got any other bright questions, Chester?

we used to board our dog because a) she liked the place we boarded her - she could run around with other dogs all day instead of having someone visit her 2x a day or whatev (it was one of those camp type places) and then when she got older we boarded her because b) she was old and we felt safer having her some place that could give her medical care (if needed)

but i get what you're saying. i would prefer a friend to watch my pets. and cats you can leave for awhile if you need to. if you leave for a week you could have a person come like 2x to check on your kitty!

I house/pet set for a boss for a month for several weeks at a time. They'd stock the fridge/liquor cabinet, and ask me to take their nice cars out atleast once a week.

they also had a pool

Well for one, I don't want strangers in my house while I'm not there. I haven't boarded my dog yet because I've been fortunate enough to have either a friend or my parents watch him...but my parents board their dog whenever we go on family vacations.

nvm...qntmfred said it already...

companies are usually bonded/insured against claims of theft for those of you worried about a stranger in your house

it's maybe not so much theft, as the fear that people will just go through my shit/look at my computer porn/make themselves at home

I don't want anybody else making himself at home at my place, even if he doesn't steal anything

insurance can't replace valuables that have sentimental value...and its still a hassle to have to go through all that, prove what items were stole, how much they are valued at etc...

^^^lies! he loves me more...

We're boarding my husband's dog this holiday season because
1) he's got ongoing medical issues
2) Our stellar petsitter is becoming reluctant to petsit because of this problem dog. Friends who used to work at a vet don't like interacting with him or having him near.

Sorry, I see absolutely no reason to give a stranger access to my house. Especially in light of my husband's faggot dog.

Btw, Just how much do you all charge for the privilege of giving a stranger access to my house? The vet only charges $18. I.e., the service your company provides...they better have a HELL of a marketing team, and should have experience selling ice to eskimos.

^^ lol i guess when you meet with the people beforehand and they fill out the applicable paperwork and they tell/show you how they want you to take care of their pets...i guess i do kinda feel like i'm qualified to take care of their pets

i wouldn't advertise here anyways, or near campus, since students/renters aren't our target audience
like i said it's mostly rich people who don't have the hangups you guys do

So what does your company charge per day for this service and assume I want my dog to be walked twice a day?

having a maid thats part of your staff != hiring someone from molly maids. Big difference...molly maids being closer to what you/your company does.

I could see maybe someone that was part of a business I'd heard of, that had a reputation for being good, that I could call from the Yellow Pages or whatever and confirm that the person claiming to work for them actually did so. If all this were true of a petsitting place, I'd prefer it to normal vet boarding.

Luckily I've been fortunate that when I've had pets I've either had friends to take care of them, or I was going on a car trip where they could come too.

But with a cat -- who the hell cares? Just leave a giant pile of food and one of those water bowls with the tank that refills the bowl. It's not like a cat gives two shits about whether people are around.

i have a coworker coming by to feed my cat while im gone. boarding her would have cost around $300 for how long im gone, plus shes due for some stuff at the vet that is required before she can be boarded and i dont have the extra $150-200 to spend on it this month after buying christmas gifts

so i am paying a coworker/friend that is local and not going anywhere and who lives <10min away $150 to come by every other day or so

and hes going to fix my garbage disposal & seal some grout cracks in the shower while im gone too -- for free

besides, my cat hates other animals and i only board her as a last resort. shes much better off relaxing at home with someone coming by frequently

I know a lot of Jews in Texas, just depends on which part. Austin, Dallas, and Houston are flooded with them (I think Houston has the 4th largest Jewish population in the country).
