It doesn't take any effort for people to avoid celebrating the "off" holidays at Christmas time. Most people don't even know when Hanuka/Kwanzaa/whatever begins or even what the traditions of those holidays are.

However, everyone knows when Christmas is and everyone knows how to celebrate it (BUY SHIT). Therefore, I posit that a refusal to celebrate Christmas in our culture is in a very real sense, a negative celebration or at least a conscious acknowledgment of Christmas and the behaviors that accompany the rejection of Christmas celebration actually are that person's own Christmas traditions.
