This might get a little wordy, so heads up.

Last night around 10:30 we heard a loud explosion coming from the woods behind our house. We have hunters back there all the time, so we knew it wasn't a gunshot. Definitely an explosion, it even shook the windows. Anyway, around 11:30 another one. We called our neighbor who is on the Fire Department to see if he knew what was going on. He had no clue, but said to him it sounded like dynomite. Around 12:30, another one. This time we called the police.

Well, about an hour later a sheriff calls back. Tells us that it was some kids back there with a bonfire, and they were throwing aerosol cans into it. He said not to worry, that he ran them off and put out the fire.

This morning I got to thinking, that there is NO WAY that aerosol cans would have made that loud of a noise. So I called our local sheriff's substation to follow up on the story. Turns out that the REAL story is that some kids (and by kids I mean high-school age or older) were back there setting off "home-made explosive devices made with black powder". There were 16 of them, and no arrests were made.

Here is my problem. I was under the impression that making bombs is a pretty big deal, especially considering the state of the world and terrorism. Why the fuck would someone that set off 3 bombs back in our woods not be arrested? Should I file a complaint?

I had a friend in High School that set off a pipe bomb in a field. He got arrested, fined, and put on 2 years probation.

My GF is walking down there now to see if she can see where it went on. Our property extends a good 4 acres back into those woods, so it was most likely our property or our neighbor's (and it wasn't his kids)

A bunch of kids ride 4-wheelers back there all the time. We don't ever say anything about it because we never go back there. But explosions are a different story

For liability reasons, you should at least put up signs saying keep out...a fence would be even better. Barbed wire and posts are pretty economical ...and you can get cheap labor downtown near the bus station

1. find out where their 4wheeler path is on your property

3. string said monofilament between two trees about 4 feet up

Seriously though, the trained law enforcement officer decided they were not a threat. I think he knows better than you, since all you know about it is that you heard some fucking boom sounds coming from the woods, which may or may not be part of your property. Besides, it being your property is irrelevant because you set the precedent of not giving a fuck about it by letting people ride 4 wheelers there. again, you didn't hear/feel the explosions. i have been around guns my whole life, and i have played with every type of firework there is. and yes, i have also built pipe bombs.

these explosions were way louder and more forceful than all of them. honestly, i thought it was a meth lab explosion. there is a trailer park on the other side of those woods, so it wasn't completely far-fetched.
