We made it by packing snow into that cooler in the background. Still trying to figure out how to make a roof out of snow. I'm considering forming some ice support beams by putting water in troughs carved into the snow and lined with a tarp, then building the roof on top of those.

Give it a moat of urine, and some guard towers to spot trouble before it gets too close

You build a roof by taking it down and starting over with an igloo.

^^^ I did realize there would probably be a "fart" parody of this, but really, its about my awesome snow fort.

I did use an igloo, thats the cooler in the back that i made the bricks with.

When I was a kid, the best forts were made by carving out tunnels and rooms in the huge pile of snow the plow would create at the end of the street. Shit, we had a slide twist around the side of it one year.

Just the same, I love your fort

[Edited on December 30, 2009 at 3:58 PM. Reason : not sure what to do about a roof though. Where do you live?]

A flag would be good, but what it really needs is for someone to build an opposing fort.

I live in Wisconsin.
I'm sure I can manage a roof somehow, as long as it doesn't use enough snow to trap someone if it falls it should be good. I think a temporary support that is removed once it leans against itself could work if the ice beam idea doesnt.

this was done on a rare day when it was up near freezing enough for the snow to stick a little.

super cold weather brings dry snow, which is horrible for packing and building things. You need some moisure and weight to the snow.

Things like this are why the eskimos have 20 different words for snow.

Any of you guys remember a movie (possibly TV show) back in the 80's where a group of kids built a badass snow fort with tunnels and slides and shit? That shit was awesome.

Nah, I just found the movie I was talking about. It's called "The Dog Who Stopped The War". Snow Day was cool though because it had the chick from Entourage with erect nipples.

The snow falling christmas day and the day after was powdery, fluffy, and dry as hell. It was in the 20, IIRC. I.e., it should ahve been anything but powdery

It's must stickier today, yes...in the city. The stuff at my FIL's is still pretty dry

That is freakin awesome. Coincidentally, I used to live in Washington, in bellingham, and I built my first snow dome on mount Rainier.
