Building it yourself is the only way to go, the stores only advertise the CPU brand and hard drive size, my parents always buy theirs at best buy or a similar retailer, and when they tell me they spent $800 for a "Pentium 4 with a 800 gig drive" that my dad intends to use for gaming, and i find out its got integrated graphics, half a gig of ram and some jankity celleron im likebut what can you do?

It's tough for me to think of anything cooler than the Lvl10. The fact that all that aluminum keeps my gear cool that's just icing on the cake.

12/31/2009 9:31:24 PM
I have no pictures of mine, as I don't own a camera and I can't get the pictures off my shitty free phone. But, I have a computer that I built 3 years ago with a:AMD X2 4200+ @ 2.2 GhzASUS M2N SLI Deluxe MotherboardNvidia 8800GTS 512 MB6 Gigs of DDR2 800 RAM (only about 5.1 recognized, as I need to upgrade my BIOS, but I haven't been compelled to yet)Some TV tuner is in it as well550 Antec PSU1 DVD Drive1 1TB HDD1 250GB HDDWindows 7 Profession 64-bit and Kubuntu 9.10CoolerMaster Praetorian caseI have 1 19" monitor with a 1440x900 resolution (I got it the same time I got the computer)I also have 1 23" monitor with a 1920x1080 resolution (Christmas present)It still does everything I want it to do, so while it's certainly not the fastest thing around, it's adequate.I also have a Macbook Pro that I got around October of 2007 with a:15" Screen (1440x900 resolution)A 2.2 Ghz Core 2 Duo CPU2 GB of DDR2 667 RAM120 GB HDDNvidia 8600M GT 128 MBRunning Snow Leopard 10.6.2And like my desktop, it too still does everything I need it to do, and am very happy with the two of them.I also have a 2006 Acer that I got before going to school. It's a piece of shit. It has a:15" Screen (1280x800 resolution)A 2.0 Ghz Core Duo CPU (there is no typo, it's a Core Duo, not Core 2 Duo)An ATi Mobility x1400 with 128 MB dedicated2 GB of DDR2 533 RAM (IIRC the speed)A 120 GB HDDAnd Windows XP Professional (A fresh install too, as my father fucked it up, as my parents like to use it when something happens to their Lenovo).I also have a old IBM desktop too, but it hasn't been turned on for about a year. I'll probably take it with me when I graduate college and use it as a file server. It has:A 3.2 Ghz Pentium 4 Processor (it's a Northwood, not a Prescott)1 GB of DDR 400 RAMShitty Intel Integrated graphics (I do not remember what it exactly has, probably before the GMA 900)It has a 120 GB HDD with many bad sectors on it. (If I do use it as a file server, I'll probably get a new IDE HDD)And I don't remember what OS it has on it, as I've had everything from XP Pro, to Server 2003, to Linux, and a few old builds of Windows Longhorn on it.It MIGHT have an old Geforce MX 420 in it, but that caused Longhorn to no longer boot as it was the PCI version, whereas the AGP version theoretically would work great with it.That's all the computers that are in my possession. I only bring my AMD desktop and my Mac up to school.
12/31/2009 11:29:26 PM
I built my own cmputer in 2001 back when that shit meant something
12/31/2009 11:37:38 PM
^ Bitch, it meant nothin'.
1/1/2010 2:21:48 AM
I didn't know that building something meant buying like 10 parts, screwing/plugging them together, and plugging up some wires. It's like a kid with a lego house or somethin'.[Edited on January 1, 2010 at 2:52 AM. Reason : l]
1/1/2010 2:52:18 AM
Why did building a computer in 2001 mean something?
1/1/2010 2:55:34 AM
Because they just came out with the Athlon XP...Duh.

Well I'm here to say your video card is a shitty piece of shit.
1/1/2010 4:17:15 AM
My computer isn't used much for gaming, so I couldn't justify spending much more for a video card, especially since the 200-series nVidia cards just came out at the time and cost 2-3 times as much.

1/1/2010 2:51:55 PM
I built my first computer in 1996 which means it'd be a total POS by now!'twas a Pentium (I) 120 MHz, 500MB hard drive, a 32x CD-ROM drive, 3½" and 5¼" floppy drives, Diamond Stealth 3d 2000 video card, Samsung 15" Syncmaster CRT, and a Soundblaster Awe 32. Windows 3.11 was replaced by 95 Christmas of that year.]
1/1/2010 2:53:46 PM
^ First computer I built was a 386 (16 MHz). Ran DOS. IPX network. That was back when it took hours to install a single piece of harware Shit's so much easier nowadays. SATA+AHCI = WIN. USB=WIN. Firewire=WIN. PCI-e=WIN. Back in the day it took a whole weekend to get a computer up and running. Now it's just a few hours.
1/1/2010 3:13:10 PM
I did help dad upgrade the $3000 '89 386 to a 486-DX4 sometime around 1993 Prior to that we had a green-screen 8086 & a TI-99/4A... the latter of which I still have!/1
