I've seen some ice on the various ponds/lakes in RTP.

Though I'd been told that b/c of global warming this was impossible.

Hence, I must have been seeing things.

it wasn't ice that you saw

it was layers of algae, built up from the rising global temperature

There was ice in Jordan Lake this morning. A flock of gulls were standing on it.

I thought I saw ice both in Falls Lake, and in Kerr Lake today, also thought I was full of shit, guess there might have been something to it.

It's been WELL below freezing every night for over a week. This shouldn't be a huge surprise to most of you people.

beaver lake near my house in asheville is almost 100% frozen over (just a patch in the middle wasn't as of yesterday, it probably froze overnight though). but then, it hasn't been above 28 degrees up here since the morning 1/1/10.

We (should) all know what happens when the water itself drops below a freezing point.

But the air <32F != water <32F. You know this. That's why I rolled my eyes.

NC has cold snaps...not regularly but not infrequently. Yet, our lakes and ponds and shit don't get to icing over nearly as often as those cold spells happen.

I'm headed to the airport. With the moon so big still, if there's ice to be had, nighttime shots will be nice, so I'm throwing my camera and tripod in my car.

while I know you are just trying to make a point, please don't be ignorant about it

global warming works in both directions (extreme colds come with it as well)

we cruise through thin patches of ice headed out trout fishing in the early mornings in the brackish creeks on the NC coast every winter

the old boat was a POLAR with the huge decal down the side. it had scrapes all along the rear letters from the ice.

True, but it sure is funny when the mainstream media reports all the time about global warming related heat waves and then is pretty silent about it all when its abnormally cold. Sure it's not right to do it b/c weather /= long term trends. But it just shows the ridiculous bias.

Anyway, HAY GUYZ every morning when I go to work the ground is frozen in my yard...what's up with that???
